Edible Hair Remedies

Having beautiful hair should not come at a price. While many styling products out there can be quite pricey, there are solutions in your kitchen that help to maintain strong, healthy, and luscious hair.

You’ll find that many kitchen items are packed with the vitamins that your hair craves. Going back to nature is sometimes a refreshing change for your tresses as they may be stressed with many of the chemicals in products you currently use. Give your hair a holiday with some of these remedies.

Apple Cider Vinegar Rinse

image

Vinegar naturally removes build-up and residue on the hair shaft. It also closes the cuticles and gives you hair an added shine boost. This rinse will leave your hair soft and shimmering and don’t worry about that vinegary smell; it disappears as soon as your hair dries.

Mix 2 Tbs of apple cider vinegar with 3 cups of water. Pour on your hair after washing as a final rinse. Dry and style as desired.

Avocado and Egg Yolk Mask

image

This is especially good for dry hair as both avocados and egg yolks promote hydration. These two ingredients are both very rich in protein and vitamins such as Vitamin E and B Vitamins that will soften your hair and give your mane added nutrition.

Mash an avocado with an egg yolk and make a thick paste. Apply to dry hair for 15 minutes and then rinse and wash your hair as usual.

Mayonnaise Deep Conditioner

image

Many people stare in disbelief when they hear that Mayo is a very effective deep conditioning treatment. The eggs along with the other ingredients add luster and vitality and shine to dry hair. Use this sparingly though as you don’t want to end up weighing your hair down with too much of this rich paste.

Apply about ½ cup of mayo to damp hair and cover with a shower cap for 20mins. Rinse thoroughly and shampoo as usual.

Coconut Milk Soak

image

Not only is this extremely hydrating but it is nourishing as well and it smells delicious. Coconut milk also thickens hair, promotes hair growth and it is a known treatment to stop hair loss. The best part about this treatment is that you can pour some of it in a bath and soak while your hair is wrapped up. It makes the skin very soft too.

Use coconut milk from 1 coconut or 1 package of santan. Pour on dry hair and make sure all your hair is soaked up and wrap with a towel or shower cap. Pour the rest of the coconut milk in your bathtub with water and soak.

Lemon Juice Rub

If you are plagued by dandruff, lemon juice is a great remedy to get rid of it. You can apply this to your scalp regularly and massage it in. This is a temporary cure to help relieve the dandruff itch. Do seek professional help though if you have a very bad dandruff problem.

Squeeze some lemon juice on your scalp and hair and leave on for about 15mins, then wash off with warm water.

Olive Oil Repair

image

If your hair is constantly being exposed to drying agents like the sun and sea, this treatment gives it some nourishing relief. Your hair will be healthier and more manageable. The olive oil will also help to improve the elasticity and strength of your hair.

Rinse your hair with warm water. Massage 1Tbs of olive oil on your scalp in circular motions. Rub some of the oil on the ends of your hair. Cover your hair with a shower cap and let the oil work its magic for half an hour. Rinse well and shampoo as usual.

Black Pepper and Lemon Seed Remedy

image

This is a remedy that many use to prevent hair loss and balding. The black pepper and lemon seeds revitalise and invigorate the scalp to promote hair growth. This is also especially good if you’re trying to grow your hair longer faster.

Grind 1 tsp of pepper and 1 tsp of lemon seeds into a paste. Apply the paste on the scalp for 10mins. Rinse well with cold water.

Honey Rinse

image

When hair is not healthy it tends to be a bit lackluster and lifeless. A great way to inject some shine back into your hair is to give it a rinse with a bit of honey. Honey is used in many beauty products because it is chock full of humectants that nourish and moisturize. This rinse leaves hair with an intense shine and softness.

Dissolve 1 Tbs of honey in 3 cups of warm water. Pour over wet hair that has been washed and let dry. Style as usual.
