To start off with let's make one thing clear. We here at FC are not against love or the idea of sweet romantic gestures to show that special someone how you feel about them. What we don’t believe in though, is one day a year where you go all out and bring on the romance. Why does it have to be on one specific day? And why must there be a day to make all the happily single people feel like there is something wrong or missing from their lives?
This is why we’ve created the ‘I Hate Valentine Party'. Invite all your fabulous friends both singles and couples who aren’t caught up with all the romantic clichés for a meal of well... unconventional food.
Trust us when we say this is a menu that goes against all things sweet and rosy. We’ve created dishes based on all the no-nos of romantic-date eating 101. These dishes say ‘to hell with it! I’m going to eat what I want to!’ Oh and it goes without saying, if you’re looking for aphrodisiacs you certainly won’t find them here. However if you are just out of curiousity and want to cook something romantic try our Romantic Dinner Ideas
The Bitter
Bittergourd Mocktail
We like it bitter not sweet. We like it edgy at this party. So out go the pretty sweet frou frou drinks and in come the bitter delights. Don't be disheartened though, this is actually a rather tasty drink with an underlying bitterness.

Ingredients:
150g bittergourd + 1 lemon + 1 lime + 2 cans soda water + ¾ cups sugar
Method:
Blend bittergourd with lemon and lime juice, then strain.
Mix in sugar and soda water.
The Stinky
Grilled Garlic and Petai Portobello Mushrooms
A double whammy of a dish. Not only will you be keeping vampires away, but you’ll definitely repel any lover in sight. Take delight in the fact that your breath will stink and for once you don’t have to worry about it. As a dish the earthiness of portobello, already a match made in heaven with garlic gets punchier with petai pungency. To balance it out, the magnificent and salty-fishy anchovies.

Ingredients:
6 mushrooms + petai + 2 tomatoes + 6 cloves garlic + 1 can anchovy + olive oil + black pepper +fresh sage
Method:
Chop petai, tomatoes and garlic.
Marinate mushrooms with olive oil and scatter chopped ingredients on top.
Lay an anchovy and sage on each and season with peppers.
Roast in 180C oven for 15- 20 minutes.
The Messy
Flat Pasta Ribbons topped with Tiger Prawns
You can sub prawns for crabs as there is no dainty way to eat crabs or shell prawns. Just dig in with your hands. Splattering juices and sticky greasy fingers are definitely not sexy (or are they?), but once again, who are you trying to impress? This pasta is rustic and rough- a real get your hands and lips dirty.

Ingredients:
Pasta + 5 cloves garlic + 1 can diced tomatoes + Parsley + 1 punnet cherry tomato + 1 red pepper + tiger prawns
Method:
Roughly chop red peppers and crush cherry tomatoes.
Make sauce by sauteeing the garlic in olive oil then adding in tomatoes and peppers. Add in diced tomatoes and salt and pepper to taste.
When it's simmering mix in pasta and scatter parsley on top.
"Not impressed with V-Day? Throw a party!"

Party Ideas
Ice Breaker Get a piñata (if it's a heart all the better) and whack it to kingdom come. A great tension reliever.
Tunes Make sure to create a mix of songs that have nothing to do with being in love. Play these tracks throughout the evening.
Dresscode No pinks or reds please. We like black.
Flicks If your guests have the stomach for it, maybe this is the night to pop in a few gruesome horror or serial killer flicks. No cheesy mushy rom-coms for this rendezvous.
Games Play ex darts. Ask everyone to bring in a photo of their ex or a famous ex: (think Brad and Jennifer or Nick and Jessica) and pin them up on a board for everyone to have a go at throwing darts. Or play 'guess who'. Write cards of tragic lovers (Romeo, Anne Boleyn) and take turns guessing who by asking questions.
i tell ya what. I love valentines day, and i also would choose these options too for a date......they look delicious.
