Another good food film (commercial). This time its from Bernas and its titled Ka Fan or 'more rice' (obviously!). So it looks like its 'Tau Fu Fah' versus Ka Fan this year. This is the longer version so it is a bit draggy. I assume that the TV version is much shorter. Enjoy!

Tau Fu Fah

This is a great advertisement by Petronas for this coming Chinese New Year. It's simply titled Tau Fu Fah and tells the story of a humble Tau Foo Fah seller. The 'Fu' sign means luck and good fortune in Chinese and there is a reason why the film is titled Tau Fu Fah instead of Tau Foo Fah.

To all our Chinese fans out there "Look back on a great life. Look forward to an even greater one". Happy Chinese New Year and enjoy Petronas' new short film. I am glad they did a 'food film' version this year, and a good one at that.  Continue reading »

Dip n Dip

Somewhere in Jalan Telawi there is a chocoholic’s paradise called Dip n Dip, a franchise that started in Damascus in 2009 before expanding to Amman and Kuwait City, and now Kuala Lumpur. Their specialty, chocolates! To those who require savoury food, you will be out of luck here because they only serve chocolates ( and coffee and tea ). I kid you not!

The Brownies Crepe - a soft thin square pancake topped with a beautiful yummy pattern of milk, white and dark chocolate.

Their Brownies Crepe is so pretty, it's like an art display, consisting of a soft thin square pancake topped with a lovely pattern of milk, dark and white chocolate. Stunning! And it tasted...so good.

Another option is the Waffle Stick, a waffle roll topped with liberal amounts of the melted trio of dark, white and milk chocolate. It has its own legion of fans although the Brownies Crepe is still my no. 1 choice.

When it comes to favourite 'makan' places, we Malaysians are really spoiled for choice. Food is a favourite topic in our everyday conversations and one of the most common greeting is " Dah makan?" ( Have you eaten? ) so if you want to know which eateries always get our fans buzzing, check out our list of top 5 reviews in 2012.

1. Kak Laily Nasi Ayam Original, Subang Jaya

One of Kak Laily's trusted sellers and her rows of chicken ready for customers

It's no surprise that chicken rice holds the No. 1 spot on our list. We loove chicken, not only because it's tasty but also due to its affordability and availability. That's why chicken rice is often the preferred lunch choice for the majority of Malaysians. One of the most popular halal 'kai fan' joints in…  Continue reading »

Over the past year, we have started to include more recipes on our website. Responses have been positive so to welcome the new year, we thought that it will be apt to list out the 5 most popular recipes on our site in 2012.

On the No. 1 spot...(drumroll please...)

1. Southern Fried Chicken

This juicy Southern Fried Chicken will tame even the wildest cowboy.

You don't need a gazillion spices to make this killer Southern Fried Chicken, you just need a pinch of cayenne, cumin, garlic and the usual salt and pepper. Fry your chicken well and you will be rewarded with skin so crispy that they will break away from the flesh like a crunchy biscuit.

Fried chicken has always been a crowd favourite so it was quite a revelation when we found out the 2nd most popular recipe was a fish dish. So ranked 2nd in our list is ....surprise,surprise....it's…  Continue reading »

Makan Musings

With so many bazaars popping up across the Klang Valley, one tends to overindulge during the fasting month. This becomes a problem when Raya looms closer and you start to panic because you can't button up your Raya outfit.

Luckily there's Lunch2U, a food delivery service that serves healthy choices for iftar or lunch sessions. What makes it even more special is that it's run by a FriedChillies alumnus, our very own Alex! Besides being a foodie, she is also a trained nutritionist so she combined the two together to come up with dishes that will entice your tastebuds but don't widen the waist, You can check out the full menu on their website, www.lunch2u.my where you have a selection of sandwiches, wraps and even rice and pasta dishes that are low in calorie but high on flavour.

Makan Musings

I'd like to dedicate this award to all our fans our there. Last week at the DigiWWWoW awards, FriedChillies was awarded FAVE MAKAN MAKAN EXPERT. Since 1997, we have been promoting local mom and pop makan shops that we think deserved recognition, launched the Love Your Street Food Campaign which excited a lot of foodies out there and once or twice a week upload recipes, articles or reviews that we love to read ourselves. A big thank you for voting for us.

I do apologise for the late update for this blog entry. We just wrapped an exciting but gruelling 30 day shoot for our new food & drama show called I Eat KL on the same day the awards ceremony was held, so I was *really* tired as this was the BIGGEST, most expensive and most heart poundingly challenging project we have ever undertaken so far. To sum it up, it's like Sex in the City but instead of sex, we do food. Anyway, the…  Continue reading »
