Quickie Review

Potato wedges done well really hits the spot, a good balance of quick snack, satisfying meal with a great taste to boot! Potatoes served here are soft, thick wedges, with crispy, peppered skins. It’s drenched in a pool of smooth brown gravy sauce, with a slight tangy taste that hints of light garlic and chicken. Top this great mix with drizzles of cheddar cheese and you’re left with gooey, delicious mouthfuls that just slithers down your throat - very filling for hungry bellies!

The Potato Wedges with Gravy can be found in Hainan Kopitiam, located in Seksyen 9, Shah Alam. It’s served all day from 1030 am – 1030 pm, priced a plate at RM6.90. The portions are suitable for two people (unless you don’t want to share – it’s that delicious!) and good enough to have as a light meal on its own.

Fish Head Noodles at Soon Soon

Gorgeous milky broth, some crisp fish head and slurpy noodles. This is a bowl of good stuff. There are other things on the menu like pan mee and different types of fish but when I come here, I just order their average joe fish head noodles. What makes this broth extra delish is that fact that they simmer it down with sweet yam so you get chunks of yam soaked in milk- that explodes with flavour in your mouth. You can have thin or thick noodles with your noodles, we like it thick. A bowl goes for about RM9. If you're feeling indulgent go for the prawn noodles, you get the fish head broth with added sweetness of big prawns on top- that will set you back close to RM16. A lunch gem in Damansara Perdana.

Strip Steak at the Joneses

Twenty three bucks for a strip steak... in KL. Now that's a first. Mustafa Jones promises the finest smokey steaks, BBQ meats that are hand rubbed with their special dry spices then grilled over charcoal. This seals a signature smoky taste made even more tasty when hand basted with their homemade BBQ sauce. At that price for a NY strip steak which also includes some potato salad and a teensy cute garlic bun, boy do they deliver! They grill to order though so wait time sometimes can be at least 20 mins. It says so on the menu.

Latte at Coffee Societe

I got their latte. One sip and this is definitely a Melbournian coffee. What I mean by this is the fact that the coffee reminds me of Melbourne, Australia. It has a slighty sweeter taste (I did ask for a double shot) as compared to the others and quite smooth. They probably got the extraction process down to a tee (Melbournians are quite technical with their coffee). Their bean is a blend of Sumatra, Brazil Santos and Central America- roasted locally. Quite an enjoyable cuppa. Wish they served this in a porcelain cup instead of clear glass. A nice place to hangout at G3, Block D4, Solaris Dutamas. Heard about them at BFM89.9 last week..  Continue reading »

Espressolab’s Latte

by Adly, on Thu, February 21, 2013 - 5:13:59 PM, 0 comment
Quickie Review

Owner Leong runs his own micro roaster, one of the few coffee establishments that has one. There seems to be a coffee explosion in KL since last year and Espressolab is a local brand that is getting some buzz and attention. Their coffee is a blend of coffee beans sourced from Sumatra and other parts of the world. I tried their latte, served in a nice porcelain orange cup. It's easy to drink and leaves a nice aftertaste. Not bad for a below RM10 coffee. Coffee comes in 5oz, 7oz and 10oz sizes which is their way of saying macchiato, cappuccino and the largest which is latte. They serve plain water on the side just in case coffee is too strong for you. I tried the one at e@Curve but they have one at Gardens Mall. Maybe you'll recognise that one more since it's situated strategically on the bridge between Gardens and Mid Valley.  Continue reading »

I remember those days. Used to be under a big tree. I still preferred the big tree location rather than the sterile food court tho.
