Hi, would like to know your experience if you are member of Shangrila or Sheraton (Starwood) or Sunway dining discount card holder.
Currently I have the Hilton Diamond card for the past 2 years and thoroughly enjoyed the dining at KL Hilton. However, recently Iketeru (Jap) only gives 10% discount for buffet lunch to members and I was wondering if its time to change for other hotels. Very interested in Sheraton/Starwood but heard the food at Westin/Sheraton not too good.

Am holding a Starwood Card. I feel it is the most worthwhile as there's so many hotel under their listing. The freebies are most impressive as compared to the rest too. 5 free dining vouchers, 4 cakes, 1 bottle of wine, 1 night free accomodation and many others. As I understand, the rest are not as attractive. For me, I'm a fan of Westin hotel. Their Prego and Eest had received very good review. Sheraton hotel is not bad too, with their Italian restaurant where else, Le Meridien is fame for their Al Nafourah. Worth a try.

i have a starwood card too and while it gives good discounts for beverages, westin's prices are also above average so it sorta cancels out that benefit. it is especially worthwhile when dining for two as the discount is 50%. i think it is the same with the shangri la card. foodielianne is right - the freebies are great ; i have used the birthday cake one and will be redeeming the free night's stay next month. the sunday dimsum is great though i think dinner at eest can be a bit on the dear side. all in all, i like the westin because their service is good and the hotel's quite stunning. also, being a member gives better rates at hotels worldwide.

Just to confirm that Le Meridien is included in the Starwood card list? All I know is Westin, Sheraton Imperial and Sheraton Subang (which has since changed name and not sure if that is included?)

Yes, Le Meridien is in the package too. If you are referring to accomodation, there is a whole lot more.

TehBeng, I believe you can use for Prime as well. The discount rate 50% is for food only, and if you dine with 1 guest. Beverage on the other hand is different discount level. If you can keen, I will get my agent to call you.

I'm keen, but I can't talk or eat well right now. Still recovering from treatment. I'll email you my number when I get better. 50% for Prime steaks, this is so cool!

Hi foodielianne,
Sounds like the Starwood card is a very good deal! I am currently holding Shangri-la card, and I have enjoyed most of the benefits (even used the 35% discount for group of 15 . Shang's restaurants have also undergone a recent change in staff, i.e. new Chefs for Lemon Garden and Lafite, so looking forward.
How much did you pay for the Starwood card?
I may sign up for it after my Shang card expires in the next few months, so I can try other restaurants.

Shyen - I believe the card is the same price as the Shang card.
The Starwood card is for all the restaurant in Westin KL, Sheraton KL and Subang and Le Meridien.

Foodielianne
If you don't mind, how much do you have to pay for the Starwood card? Btw, do you have to be an American Express cardholder to apply for the Starwood card (heard from some one)? I'm really interested since my Hilton card is about to expire in July. Thanks...

How's the dim sum at Eest, say as compared with Chynna (KL Hilton) or Shanghai (Marriot)? Do they have ala-carte or buffet? I understand that Eest is fusion and not really chinese restaurant?

yeah EEST serves fusion food. i think the ala carte is okay, though can be a bit pricey. The dim sum experience is great the first couple of times but after the third time it can be a bit boring. I enjoy dim sum and ala carte at the Sheraton Imperial and Mandarin Oriental. Chynna's ala carte is also quite yumz. the chef's signature noodles is quite tasty...

Anybody knows if the Sheraton Imperial's Chinese Restaurant open already? The last time i went there for using my starwood card, it was closed for renovation. Can't wait to use the card again... it's been idle for awhile..;9 Btw, for luv2it... the big difference between shang's and starwood: the starwood card is fully transferrable, so your siblings/spouse/friends can use it too...

You mean anyone can use the card as long as it is in their possession? I know they give a supplementary card but not know that it is transferable.

Ooopss... Now i know it's not transferrable... all this time, my siblings have been using my cards. They paid cash, so i guess the hotels never find out.
I am waiting for the chinese restaurant to open... miss the dim sum. Thanks for checking it out...

Sheraton Imperial is in the midst of renovation, a lot of restaurants are not open. Went to Villa Danielli for Italian food but they don't serve Italian food anymore, mostly Coffee House food (i was shocked to see the menu serving Mee goreng mamak... at RM30!!) But they have good quality buffet although the choices are limited.
Just checked my vouchers... all of them are fully transferrable (stated at the back of the vouchers) but the card is not transferrable.

Check out the Shangri-La card. Their discount structure is like 2 pax 50% off food, 3 pax 25 and so on. And they have a discount booklet, free wine, free cake, special room rate, room upgrade discount.
The discounts for food is valid in Shangri-La around Malaysia. The room discounts only valid in KL though.

As a Shangri La card member, thought to share what I know about the scheme - the dining discount - yes, is 50% for 2 people (33% for 3, 25% for 4 and so on) at all restaurants in Shangri La KL but at Lafite, discount is 20% at dinner time (although still 50% at lunch time). 50% discount for lobby lounge during hi-tea time only. Discount for food at other Shangri La hotels in Malaysia is a flat 20%.
I personally prefer the Starwood scheme over the Shangri La one as I am also a member of the Starwood programme because -
1. the Starwood vouchers are much more interesting and useful (although the annual membership is a little bit more than the Shangri La programme). Total values of the vouchers are quite a lot more than the fee paid.
2. there are much more restaurants under Starwood chain in KL which means more varieties for dining out and enjoying the membership benefits.
3. drinks also get discounted by 20% at all Starwood hotels in KL. Shangri La programme does not offer discount on drinks consumed when dining.

Hi all,
I just signed up for the Starwood programme, after being a member of the Shangri-la programme for the past year. IMHO, these are some things to consider when deciding which programme to choose:
Note: Dining benefits for food are exactly the same, i.e. 50% for 2 persons, 33% for 3 persons, 25% for four persons, and 20% for five persons and above (except for La Fite in Shangri-la as mentioned in Live-to-eat's post above).
Shangri-la programme
1) RM488++ per annum
2) Restaurants are all top of the range (read very expensive) but also very good, so if you think you want to try out such places, then this card is really good
3) No complimentary stay for one night and no discount on beverages
4) Benefits mainly limited to one hotel (Shangri-la KL)
5) Blackout dates (main festivals, Christmas, New Year, and Formula One)
Starwood programme
1) RM548++ per annum
2) Benefits apply to 4 hotels in KL (Sheraton Imperial KL, Sheraton Subang, Westin and Le Meridien)
3) 20% discount on beverages
4) One free supplementary card with exact same benefits (so your other half can eat with someone else other than you!)
3) 5 complimentary dining certificates for 2 persons each at various restaurants in the 4 hotels (transferable)
5) One free night's stay in 1 of the 4 hotels of your choice
6) Less blackout dates (i think its only Formula One weekend)
7) Restaurants not as top of the range (other than those at Westin) as Shang's, so less wow factor if you trying to impress someone
8) Sheraton Imperial KL is still under major renovations at the moment, so only Villa Danielli the Italian restaurant is open, but serving mainly coffe house food. Renovations expected to be completed by end of this year.
There's my two cents. Hope this helps!

Fellas,
Sorry, but I just discovered that there is a difference in the dining benefits.
For Shangri-la's programme, the minimum discount is 20%, i.e. even if you have more than 5 persons, the discount is still 20%.
But for Starwood programme, the discount rate keeps reducing until 10%. For example, I went to Villa Danielli for buffet lunch yesterday, and for 6 persons, the discount came up to 17% (rounded up from 100%/6 persons = 16.67%). So, if you have a large group, this will make a difference.

I guess all the cards have their pros and cons. I probably think Shangri-La's is good because of the free wine and cake, and the discount of course.
Does anyone have a Hilton Club Card? I love to eat at Iketeru, and with the card, I think I'll be able to save.

At Iketeru, the card is valid only for ala-carte, not the buffet (they give only 10%). Wish they will bring back the discounts for buffet as well. Had it several times early last year then they stopped. Its really good and worth it with the card.

Hi, i just joined sunway absolute cosmo @ rm488 p.a. Dining discounts valid for all restaurants except for CNY eve/day1&2. Minimum discount is 15% for it's Chinese and American Itallian restaurants, otherwise it's max 50% for 4-20pax, and 25% even if u dine alone! You can even get 30% on all beverages, 50% on full bottle purchases.
The card is non transferable, but the sales person told me just to use my initials, as no one can ask to chk ic, anyone can use the card if paying by cash! ( credit card got name la.. )
Apart from the above, got several vouchers ( all transferable ) including 1 nite stay at Pyramid tower hotel.
Am arranging class reunion this weekend, the discount already covers 60% of the card cost lor :D

The Hilton card costs RM548, if I am not mistaken. One nite stay foc at KL Hilton or Phuket Hilton, 1 foc cake from PJ Hilton and the usual discounts for dining. Contact me at flooly@yahoo.com if you want the sales person to call you.
I tried dimsum buffet at Eest and the set dinner at Dining Room as I was given the Taste Matters vouchers. This was done with a view to join as a card member as I already joined Hilton for 3 years. However, the food was not good and not to my liking at all. Wonder which card I should join next year??? (sigh).
