On October 8th last week Electrolux launched it's concept store in Solaris Dutamas. This is in conjunction with their 90 year anniversary. The Concept Store is a new way to shop for appliances where customers can experience the wide range of Electrolux products first-hand. The store is divided into the cooking zone where a full kitchen range is on display and then the washing and cleaning zones for their washing machine and vacuum lines.
So shinny... we didn't move very far past the spanking gorgeous kitchen
With this launch Electrolux also unveiled their absolute 'hero oven', the Inspiro. Basically this oven has 300 bulit-in recipes with 78 cooking categories. It's the first intelligent oven. So basically you can put in what you wish to cook say a roast beef. You just need to press the roasting symbol, then rotate dial to beef and select top side for instance. Then, rotate it to rare, medium or well-done. Then the oven will calibrate taking into account the weight and off it goes.

Many might feel a little apprehensive about leaving an oven to its own devices, but I thought it was a stroke of genius when they liken it to an auto-focus camera. Before cameras were manual and when the first auto-focus cameras came out, consumers were skeptical. Now everyone has one. So this might be the future of ovens. The Inspiro also has an override function so you can control it manually too.
As a treat for the day, Electrolux had popular food blogger FatBoyBakes on hand to demonstrate some cupcake decorating and make a quick thin crust pizza using the Inspiro.

When asked if customers can actually come in the store and cook with the appliances and try it out, Marcus answered that there are plans to do cooking demos. During these demos too customers can experience the appliances first hand and maybe even have a go at it. It's certainly a beautiful store with plenty of opportunity to throw small events and cookouts. I certainly would not mind a washing machine demo. Although I do separate my whites and colours I pretty much use the default setting on my washing machine all the time.
Electrolux is certainly doing something right having survived in the home appliance market for 90 years. To think it all started with one man's vision and a portable vacuum cleaner...
