This is a great way to indulge in this delicious smooth dark delicacy without packing on the pounds. Cocoa naturally softens the skin and the antioxidant properties could prevent free radicals from damaging the skin’s elastin, collagen, and other protein. So apart from smelling deliciously good it does the body good!

When I arrived at the spa I waited in the Jamu Lounge for my room to be prepared while I sipped on iced lemongrass tea. A sip of this immediately put me at ease and I was ready to be pampered to the max.



The room is beautiful with traditional Indonesian wood and stone carvings on the wall and a private bath and shower. The dim lighting and soothing gamelan music set the mood perfectly as I prepared for my treatment.

It started off with a one-hour massage. The firm strokes beat my muscles into submission and I was putty in the therapist’s hands. The only gripe I have here is that the oil could have had a chocolatey scent to make it a true chocolate spa. Instead, a traditional aromatherapy oil was used.

Once the knots were kneaded out I got to sit in a steam box contraption for 10 minutes. Basically it’s a cloth box and you’re zipped in with only your head sticking out. This steams and opens up the pores. It’s very soothing.



The chocolatey treatments followed with the application of a chocolate mask that was rubbed off when dry acting as the chocolate scrub as well. This smelled like cocoa pops and got me extremely hungry. I had to stop myself from wanting to lick it just to see if it tasted as good as it smelt. Mmm…

Once it was all scrubbed off I got to soak in a cocoa herbal bath. The hot water was incredibly relaxing as I laid back, closed my eyes and took a short nap. For the couple’s treatment, couples are able to enjoy this relaxing bath together.

Afterwards I took a quick shower and put on some of the after treatment lotion. Sadly this too was not chocolate scented which I felt would have completed the whole experience.

All in this entire spa experience was a wonderful treat, while more chocolate could have been incorporated in the menu; I doubt there is much to complain about with the wonderful treatment you get. The Martha Tilaar experience is one that relaxes, recharges, and rejuvenates.
