2010 is here and among the resolutions out there, eating right is always high on the list. I’m sure after the festive season your waistline could use a little something friendly to shed a few pounds and help you feel better in general. Kick start your day with a nutritious smoothie and you’ll be well on your way.

When it comes to smoothie making you can be pretty creative about the types of fruits and combinations you use. Just toss it all in the blender and blitz away till smooth. For an added dose of healthy sprinkle in some flaxmeal or wheatgerm or even thicken it up with oatmeal. Here are a few concoctions we like.

Apricot Yogurt Smoothie

Apricots are an excellent source of vitamin A, a very good source of vitamin C, and a great source of dietary fiber and potassium. Yogurt is packed with the good kind of bacteria that our bodies need in addition to being a good source of protein and calcium.

4 Apricots, fruit cut off of the pit
2 Tbs yogurt
¼ Cup juice of choice
2 Cubes of ice
1 Tbs Honey

Add in the ingredients

Delicious peachy coloured delight

Berry Banana Smoothie

This thick creamy smoothie is absolutely berrylicious! More studies are showing that blueberries play an important role in a healthy diet. They provide a great boost of antioxidants and aid your mind in aging gracefully. Raspberries are also high in phytonutrients and antioxidants as well as vitamin C. And bananas…well they’re brain food! They keep you full and are packed with vitamins and nutrients.

1 Frozen Banana
1/2 Cup frozen Blueberries
1/2 Cup frozen Raspberries
1/2 Cup Plain Yogurt
Splash of soymilk
1 Tbs Honey

Luscious berries ready to be blitzed

Just a touch of soymilk and yogurt

Peanutbutter Chocolate Smoothie

This tasty smoothie gives you a protein and energy boost. Peanutbutter contains fairly high quantities of dietary fiber, which helps in regulating both blood cholesterol and blood sugar levels. Pure cocoa powder is an excellent source of catechins, which are polyphenols of the flavanol group that are believed to protect against heart disease, cancer, and various other medical conditions. The banana supplies an added boost and the nutella…well that’s just for fun really!

1 Tbs Peanutbutter
1 Tbs Nutella
1 Tbs Cocoa Powder
1 Banana
1/4 Cup Skim Milk (Dairy free alternative: soy or almond milk)
3 ice cubes

Banana, Chocolate, and Peanutbutter...yum!

sometimes i like to get ginseng tea, but the ones that come in powder form, and add it to smoothies, like as a booster!
