Yes it's the silly season where for some odd reason, you enter a shop completely thinking you are going to be sensible and then... you buy this...
Wajik durian, gooey and lovely... yummers
And some of this...
How long does it take to strip meat to make a whole bushel of that?
Then you poke your head for a while at a stall that has basins of rendang and spicy, sticky acar buah (a dish that doesn't make sense to me except at old school weddings and Raya.)
Mari-mari, Opah punya spesel acar buah!
And you come out with tupperwares of acar and rendang and dodol, tiny wrapped perfect to pop in your mouth or in 1kg packs. Let's not even get to the mind-boggling array of kuih raya on offer!
Check out the pointing finger in case you need to know what you are buying
I also like the fact that you can indulge in ketupats and rendangs way before Raya. Somehow when Raya rolls over, the abundance of it dilutes the enjoyment somewhat. But if you are starving and waiting for buka, nothing embodies Raya more...

Took some home to eat with Rendang Tok.
Where is this place? Well Shah Alam. If you are feeling low on Raya spirit, the Malloi polloi central of Shah Alam namely Wisma PKNS is the place to go. Rows upon rows of baju raya of every hue and size and aisles upon aisles of all kinds of delicacies and delicious smells. Go mad!
I came back with a pile of kuihs I have no idea their origins or ingredients. They are still rattling in my boot and shall be taken back to Ipoh.
The wajik durian... fantastic! And it's been a while since I've tasted such soft and tasty dodol... It's as though they just took it out from those huge kualis. So if you're looking for a little bit of last minute raya shopping or just want to eat yourself silly, traipse down to Shah Alam. These good folks are selling right up to Raya Eve. I think some of them even sleep there. But hurry! Last I heard, my favourtie stall ran out of dodol already.
SELAMAT HARI RAYA!!!
