If you're looking for the best nasi lemak kukus in town...it has to be the small gerai opp Pasar Moden along Jalan Gombak...
Every weekend this small place is packed with families ..personally thinks it's better than Tang Ling...the specilities Ikan sembilang berlada and the sotong is delicious...try it...

Had the nase lemak Dang Wangi (Nasi Lemak DW) on Jalan Dang Wangi again this Saturday and can now confirm that it is different from Nasi Lemak RA (Nasi Lemak Raja Abdullah) which is just around the corner on Jalan Raja Abdullah. So there you are, bake_kl. ;p

I'm surprised no one mentioned RSGC's nasi lemak. Haven't had this in the last 2 decades so I can't attest to its level now, but it used to be a crowd favourite.

Currently I think Tang Ling's is my favourite, at least for now. Although my dad said somewhere in the middle of kg bharu there's a better one. Not the antarabangsa one. and not the Raja abdullah one although both are famous in kg bharu. I think its in raja uda, but apparently it finishes very early so I never get a chance to see it.

You mean the nasi lemak bungkus in those brown paper wrapping they used serve at the Fairway? Dunno if they still have it. Think you just worked up a good appetite playing golf. I also find that lots of things seem vastly improved in the warming glow of memories. To be fair, it was pretty good and considering the state of F&B in the place lately may be one of the few things worth ordering but I cant imagine going there just for it. Damned shame too because the club used to have a good char kway teow and mixed grill too.

Yeah well food in Lake Club used to be good too. Their Special Kuey Teow and Fried Oysters were to die for. But the nasi lemak wasn't so good.

I agree with you, nostalgia is always very kind to the actual experience.

i agree with tehbeng - the food at the lake club USED to be good ; its saving grace is the ikan bakar stall by the poolside. except they're also very stingy with the assam sauce. Try asking for extra and WATCH THEIR FACES...

Yes, the sotong at that ikan bakar place use to be quite good. The AGM/EGM nasi lemak at Lake Club has always been as bad as the diatribes heard at those meetings. Dunno why the quality at catering in the old clubs has gone down. I think people just dont go there in the numbers as they used to and so the quality cateres wotn stay.

You gotta be kidding me. Lake Club still gets loads of people coming to eat. I think its the pressure of maintaining low prices, so the vendors start to lower their quality. The chinese restaurant is a prime example. I used to love going there as a kid. Now... less said the better.

Have you guys tried the Batek Bar beef roast lately? Tsk tsk...

Well, in this case I have to say that Nasi Lemak in Village Park & also Nasi Lemak Tanglin. FYI, the boss of Nasi lemak tanglin is a relative to a nasi lemak in wisma Genting Food court. I should say, both of the nasi lemak is best so far. In Village park what I like the most is their nasi lemak ayam goreng berempah(marvellous) and I cant believe that since the first time I tried it on Monday last week(well I know I might be out dated) and I have visited them 3 time last week alone. I will go back again this week for nasi dagang because I never tried nasi dagang. ABout the nasi lemak in wisma genting foodcourt, their nasi lemak sotong kering and ikan tengiri s to die for. I addicted to it and I can say I never eat nasi lemak with sotong & ikan tengiri before because I think nasi lemak is best eat with ayam rendang & ayam goreng. Their price is reasonable for such a great nasi lemak. It range from 2.50 - 3.50(add rice,egg,sotong,tengiri)..Isn't that cheap???WOW....

A malay couple who sells nasi lemak in the morning on the lane next to Alchemist Pharmacy & Everfresh grocers in Jalan Burhanuddin Helmi, TTDI. Excellent rendang ayam and (i think) even better rendang daging. Just look for the stall with the longest line (proper line-up lime) as there are quite a few nasi lemak stalls in the area in the morning.

Had nasi lemak at Madam Kwan in mid valley but did not like it at all. Liked the one at 6-10 grill in PJ sec 17 but its non halal. Anyone has any comment on Cik gu nasi lemak in Kelana Jaya? Have not gone there for years.

Haven't been there for quite some time but will check it out. Last time I tried them, they were not as good anymore. The chicken was not as juicy as before. Anyone knows a good place for nasi lemak bungkus? You know... the small 70 sen one. I like them with some sambal, one quarter egg, crunchy ikan bilis or even better, a small strip of ikan kering. My favourite place in Bukit Gasing underwent new management and now dah tak sedap lah. Looking for a new fix.

If you like those nasi lemak bungkus the next time you are heading up north do stop by the Sungai Buloh Jejantas Rest Area. The nasi lemak bungkus sold there are from a few different vendors and they are not too bad. I always make sure I stop by for my fix. Sometimes you will find the ones with the ikan kering, which is my favourite as well. The shop is next to Dunkin Donut.

I think I know that one Mel. Thanks for reminding me of this place. You are right. It's not too bad about RM1.50 for one bungkus I think.

definitely nasi lemak tanglin... for breakfast.. since its only open in the morning.. (err rite?).. yeah the village park is also nice.. and talking bout the village park the roti bakar is to die for! but instead of going to kampung baru sometimes i go to taman kosas if im near ampang. the nasi lemak hot station is lovely too. when im in subang the one in sunway foodcourt is to die for. cant remember the name but it is at the foodcourt.. its so very famous. not far from the esso down the lane from sunway pyramid. last time they are only open for breakfast and closed on sundays. but now the pak cik told me they are open daily til nite. the nasi lemak cikgu is not as good as it used to be. but any nasi lemak bungkus that is sedap in subang??

I think the mak wanjor is only good in the morning. Cause everything is still fresh. And of course tanglin is still my favourite.

As for ttdi, yeah. There's this guy he sells of the road burhanuddin helmi 2 or something. Its near the telekom building. Anyway, there used to be one near the ibm building... they had this like makshift food court. I went there 2 nights ago... and I found there's a new office building there with lots of makan places. Its the new Naza building. Egad...

As for subang, i've as yet to find the good ol nasi lemak bungkus that i can truly stand behind.

Tehbeng.. if you're looking for sweet sambal nasi lemak, try the morning stalls at Masjid Jamek's LRT station. One of them sells fantastic nasi lemak with the good ole sweet sambal. I can't get enough of it ... must eat the sambal either with nasi lemak or meehoon goreng everyday. The stall is manned by a young couple. Look for the stall with mee siam colour meehoon in a big round pot..

I have tried one at Ampang near ISKL and nan corner. Their nasi lemak is steam nasi lemak. Their rendang is awesome too... Beside the stall also have the famous satay @ Ampang. So meaty and less fat..

Why didn't anybody mentioned nasi lemak bungkus near Kelab Sultan Sulaiman, Kg Baru? IMHO, they have the best bungkus version since they served inside the banana leaves piping hot and you can select side dishes from an array of endless yummy meats, chickens and veggies! A must try

Finally had the Nasi Lemak RA (Nasi Lemak Raja Abdullah) over the weekend. Decided on trying it because it got the better ratings of the two Kampung Bahru nasi lemaks rated in the new edition of The Star STREET FOOD guide (Nasi lemak Antarabangsa was dropped from the edition entirely- oh dear!). There was already a queue early on a Sunday morning. The rice was flavourful and fragant. Maybe slightly richer than Tanglin nasi lemak but every bit as fluffy with perfect individual grains. The overall lauk was much better too, inmho, though I do miss my begedil. Definitely worth the visit.

The nasi lemak at RA is definitely better. Antarabangsa has dropped because it is no longer consistent. Some days its good some days it's not. The STAR also rightly pointed out that one of their most popular dishes are the Paru or beef lungs. This is fried semi-crispy with some shallots and spices. There's always a queue there. If you want the paru, better come before 8.30am.

Just tried it this morning. Its not bad but not extra ordinary. Kinda sweetish sambal. Ikan bilis was good though.

Nasi Lemak Antarabangsa is opening a restaurant on Jalan Telawi Tiga, Bangsar! Thats the same row as Madam Kwan's. I couldnt believe my eyes when I saw the opening soon sign. I wonder how that is going to work out as I dont quite see the business sense. Sometime ago, Tanglin Nasi Lemak used to run a stall around the neighbourhood but it didnt pan out. This was before they started selling it at night at their original location. Still, I probably couldnt stop myself from trying it even if I wanted to.

Thanks for the heads up asian-malaysian. In Telawi 3 issit? Upscale nasi lemak dining? I dunno whether this will work but I am glad that someone has the courage to take nasi lemak to another level altogether. I am curious as well whether this will take off.

Youre very welcome. They even have a website:

http://www.nasilemakantarabangsa.com/

I never knew the owner came from Indonesia.

Ok try this one guys. I've been going to this makeshift stall by the bus stop at attinahapan road in tmn tun. Its just opposite the sports complex btw. Its open only at about 10pm like that... and if its not raining... and if the guy is not malas la. Heh Heh, I know... very leceh one.

But the couples nasi lemak is good. I like it with just the sotong and telur mata kerbau. Sambal is not pedas, a bit sweet. But that's what I'm looking for anyway. The rice is good, tasty and well separated but not hard.

Another foodie told me there's this nasi lemak franchise in carrefour wangsamaju or something. Apparently run by 4 partners each doing a particular part of the nasi lemak ie sambal or nasi or something like that. Anyway, my foodie friend tells me the nasi lemak is good. I haven't tried it myself but the search continues!

Sampled 2 nasi lemaks in Telawi 3 yesterday. I had wanted to try the nasi lemak antarabangsa but it was early in the morning and I was told that they only open @ about 11am (the staff I asked wasnt even sure!). Anyway, instead of that, I had my breakfast at Chawan. For RM 3, its nasi lemak bungkus huge and very tasty. The sambal is light and not too oily almost like a tumis and you will finish the packet in no time. In the afternoon, I went back to nasi lemak antarabangsa with a friend. I tried the mee rebus for a change while she had the nasi lemak with chicken rendang. I liked the way they cut the cucumber cutting ridges along the slices. They served a few slices alongside the mee rebus as well which I found odd but not unwlcomed. The sambal was a bit on the sweet side from what I recall but the rice was more or less the same as in Kampung Baru to my mind though my friend disagreed prefering the original in Kampung Baru. The chicken rendang was so tough, my friend needed a separate plate and a knife to cut it into edible pieces.

The sauce for the mee rebus was more interesting with a bit of a prawn flavour. Although its not quite penang mee rebus as claimed by the staff, it is far more interesting sauce than the usual curryish stuff that passes for it in KL. Just be sure to bring a small bottle of deep fried shallots and some sotong from the neares rojak stall. The ambience was comfortable but the service a little sketchy.

Have to say that the nasi lemak sold by the old malay man on the corner of the imigration office in Bukit Damansara beats both of them hands down with the great rice, sambal and lauk. Its the closest thing Ive had to my beloved section 14 nasi lemak. Sadly, the man's great contributions will likely die with him while lesser nasi lemaks will get franchised.
