Have tried the singapore outlet and find it mediocre only despite the praises and reviews of the chef and his skill.

To me, fluffiness and lightness of pastries are secondary. More important is the taste and the sin factor.

That's what I think of strudels as well....hehehe. Hmm... come to think of it, don't know any pastries that are superb. Cakes, i know eg. Ms Read, La Manila, Starbucks, Dome,etc.. [Posted By pixel8]

have managed to try most of the menu at bakerzin! recommended desserts: chocolate soft-centre cake, the coupe black forest which comes with very smooth house-made ice-cream and the chocolate espuma, whcih is quite unusual (i like the contrast of tangy berries and sweet chocolate)

the pizzas are unusual, using puff pastry as a base, but could do without the extra olive oil. I really like the soups, which are very creamy and smooth, and the sandwiches are simple and good. Some of the food is a tad salty though. [Posted By Sage]

My comments:
- Bakerzin's specialty is Dessert. Mouth watering, and specialty is warm chocolate cake.
- Bakerzin's food is very good, and price is reasonable, although not cheap.
- Weekdays serve a set lunch which is between RM23-39 which is value for money
- I've gotten varying service at Bakerzin. They're ok as long as they are not packed. There was once I was very disappointed when they were full house and the service / waiting time was terrible and the store manager / asst. manager was not helping out at all (but instead sitting in a private room having some 'strategy' meeting). I believe it's still ok if you dont' go during packed times
- My fav. drink here: Mint Lime. It's super sour. Be warned.

some of the main dishes are ok, the clam pasta for instance and the omelette bacon sandwich.

the dessert tapas is also nice.

Just had dinner at Bakerzin at 1-Utama. Food is actually good considering the price you are paying (20+ for mains)

Their avocado baked crab meat salad is good to start with. Pasta was so so, (ran out of veal, had to settle with roast beef which was too cooked) but their pastry, something champignon la-creme which is a pastry with mushrooms and other stuffs in it, is excellent. I love their hot chocolate cake as I cant find other places that serves cake with hot flowing chocolate in the middle, yum yum.

But I do agree their service really needs some major improvements. We ordered some starters before the meal, but it all ended up on the table at the same time! Dont really like to eat my mains cold. And amazingly, (maybe not unusually), they ran out of the first few choices we made for our order.

The strawberry shortcake is divine, very light and melt in the mouth! Went for lunch and the same thing happened, i.e. no veal.

i have tried bakerzin's dessert tapas .. not too bad. it comes together with a lunch promo set, select 3 tapas with an assigned main course and tea/coffee ... less than RM30, very reasonable for the quality you get.

I've recently purchased Bakerzin's mango mousse cake and I was dissapointed as it was one of their signature cake but it didn't meet up my GREAT expectations. The cake tastes like the Chinese kei-tan-kow. Dry and sweet. I still prefer their tiramisu for the strong rum flavour.

What other cakes do you all recommend?

Just been to Bakerzin's in Bangsar Village II. They only serve pastries there, not like the main courses they have in 1U branch. Was empty when I went there so opted for lunch at Marmalade Cafe instead (it's a new branch too, they have another at Mont Kiara, and this one is packed!)
Have been to cafe cafe, but had their tiramisu instead. Heaven, just pure heaven. (must be the high alcohol content in it raspberry)

I had a chance to visit their outlet at Queensbay Mall in Penang. Tried their Strawberry Shortcake. I thought it wasn't bad. I tried something else but I forgot what it was. Overall, the sin-factor is not there for a chocolate lover like me.

Now that come to think of it, any suggestion as to where to get the best chocolate cheesecake or blueberry cheesecake? I tried various outlets but I just don't like the fact that they go cheap on the cheese!

I used to go to Bakerzin KLCC very often, heard from the staff there that Bakerzin Spore wasnt happy at all with the franchise owners here.. they changed to Oriels for a while, but now I think all closed..
