You really only eat read meat once every 40-60 days? Not even pork in between? I pity the port of call when the SS TehBeng comes in to harbour. LOL

Well, due to many reasons not easily understood by normally sane people, I choose to give myself a meat day every 40-60 days. The other days I make do with chicken, eggs, fish and tempe (that'll make me fairer btw raspberry).

I'm a major health and fitness enthusiast and I try to eat MORE red meat. Why? The "good" nutrients far outweigh the "bad" ones, at least for me. Since I've no blood pressure or cholesterol problem at all, it works perfectly for me.

As they say, one man's meat is another's poison. raspberry

Anyway went to J&R;and jln dungun and found it wasnt' halal. So ended up giving up my cote de beouf and instead of going to las vacas again (after stopping by in the afternoon already, haiya) decided to drop by daily grind.
Had the blue cheese burger and shared a rib eye steak sandwich. The blue cheese burger was ok la, its tasty enough but the burger just didn't have the oopmh to it. Luckily the rib eye steak sandwich made up for that. Have to say their choc hazelnut milkshake is divine.

Tehbeng, how did you end up checking out J&R;? Wasnt the cote de beouf supposed to be at the Courtyard restaurant which is a couple of doors from J&R;on Jalan Dungun? Im pretty sure they are halal. I think its in Decanters group of restaurants.

Yay, its July and my meat day is coming up. Hopefully the courtyard still has the Cote de Beouf on their menu this week. Anyone want to join me? raspberry

Uh, that's what I thought... Courtyard. And then I remembered Adly mentioning J&R;... and cause I didn't have the internet with me at the time I just sort of tried my luck looking for the place. When I found J&R;I thought, wow my instincts are good! Given that that road was pretty busy... anyway, looks like I made a boo boo. Which building is the Courtyard in anyway?

OMG, I feel like a doofus. Rereading the posts again, Asian-Msian already described the place. That's it, to hell with my beef day whatever. Courtyard is on next week.

To be fair, I may have partly caused your mistake in the first place since I used J&R;as a landmark to describe the location of Courtyard in my post a couple of months ago. Adly merely posted the address and contact particulars for J&R;(Bukit Damansara) after my post which may have cemented the name in your mind and you took the ball from there. Theres probably an original friedchillies moral or pepatah to be found in there somewhere (something along the lines of "Bila lapar, perut yang baca" or something like that).

Exactly. My brain wasn't doing any work that day. All I knew was I was going to get steak and my stomach led the way. So when I found J&R;I thought to myself, good job big fellow, you're a regular hunter of prey. Nevertheless this gives me the perfect opportunity to revisit my meat day next week. Its taking a wee bit of will power though not to drop by Las Vacas for dinner just now.

Dun Worry Teh Beng... no one's a doofus in kopitiam. Just good food and great people. Anyway, heard that Las Vacas has demolished the run down structure beside their shop and has plans to make it small steakhouse there.

That is something good to hear. Their tables are easily fully occupied especially for dinner.

Isnt your name Brette? A lot of new single posting "members" lately. smile

Btw, I grilled a "meatworks" sirloin steak for dinner bought from Cold Storage @ BSC. I seasoned it with knorr chicken granules (instead of salt) and black pepper before grilling. It was wonderfully tasty, juicy and tender.

Asian Malaysian : You used an oven griller or BBQ griller?

Actually, I just pan grilled it on my trusty cast iron frying pan red face . Im planning to do the same again with a better cut of steak in the near future as I have some home made brown chicken stock (Took me practically a day and a half to turn 5 chicken carcasses and some mirepoix into 4 cups of culinary currency) just begging to find its way into a nice wine reduction. Will report back if it pans out.

Cool! Sometimes all a good steak cut needs is a simple hot cast iron pan. Hope your next steak experiment goes well!
