By now, Im sure most of us would have read about the renaming of Jalan Alor as Jalan Kejora.

I think that Jalan Alor's position as a long established and important tourist and food destination in Kuala Lumpur is unquestioned and that the response to the change of name has been resoundingly in the negative. Many other people from traders and tourist to other locals (including both the current Bukit Bintang MP, Fong Kui Lun and Datuk Dr Lee Chong Meng, the Bukit Bintang MCA division chief and former MP there) have objected to the change of the famous road's name.

I appreciate and wish to express kudos to our boo_licious for higlighting the issue recently in her food blog. It gave me the idea that perhaps if all the food bloggers in KL united and voiced their dissapproval of the unprecedented change of name, the authorities would realise their folly. Perhaps if the Foodster is agreeable, a petition of sorts could be set up on this website that we could sign online requesting the authorities to revert "Jalan Kejora" to its original well known and well loved name.

Yes I think this is a good proposal. We should do something to oppose such senseless name changes. A foreign friend asked me what Kejora means and honestly (I'm ashamed to say), I mumbled something about it being a flower or plant!! Ok, now I know it's Venus the planet (named after the Roman goddess of love? hmm...). So, yes please, if Fried Chillies could come up with a petition form, I'd be very happy to sign it.
