Now that Krispy Kreme is in Malaysia, time to put them all to the test. Which donut do you think is better? Krispy Kreme, JCo, Big Apple, Dunkin Donut or your local Kuih Keria? C'mon... put your votes in!

In my opinion, most Malaysians are not used to sweet stuff. Many thinks that western cakes or desserts are too sweet.
I am not surprise if JCo wins out in this contest.
I on the other hand, are used to that kind of sweetness and I think Malaysian cakes are not sweet enough.

There's only one way to find out. Get your opinions in and lets see.... Pretty interesting that Krispy Kreme is not getting many votes yet... Tell your friends about this poll guys. I'm pretty interested to see who comes out tops, aren't you?

I know I voted for local donuts. Tell ya, nothing beats fluffy dough that has just a light dusting of sugar over it dunked in kopi hitam pahit. However getting a nice one nowdays is like searching for a rojak in Camden Town. The closest is probably kuih cakoi albeit slightly chewy.

Cool! I know a great one but it's at Kampung Limbungan in Melaka. They use Gula Melaka as the sugar coating. Daymnnnnn!

I know Keria is the keledek donut coated with sugar syrup, what I meant was the normal flour donut coated with fine granulated sugar, like the one tehbeng described! :p

There is still time TehBeng. Malaysians are passionate about their food. Its just sometimes they take it for granted. I'm gonna let the poll run awhile longer. Lets see.

My friend in Melbourne told me that a friend of hers came to Malaysia for a holiday last year and was so taken by JCo donuts that he decided to buy a dozen back to Oz with him. And as some of you may be aware, Oz has very strict rules about bringing in outside food into the country.
Obviously, he got stopped at Customs. Refused to give up his donuts and proceeded to finish them off one-by-one before being allowed back in his country :D Reminds me of a Lat cartoon.
So, why are some people so excited about KK?

Lyminn:
Why? Because they have the best donut in the US and people like me are used to that kind of sweetness (spent 7 years eating donuts there.... oh yeah, poor student like me used to eat that for breakfast as well, one quarter per donut (not KK donuts), why not?).
It's like asking why a Sarawakian like me always crave for Kolomee.

Oh for the simpler times when the best donuts you could get were at Dunkin Donuts! I still have very fond memories of my first Dunkin Donuts experience at store in Fareast Plaza Singapore.
hobie: Have you tried the hakka mee in KL and if so, whats your take on it compared to kolomee?

hobie... fair enough, to each his/her own.
Just a curious question, why do u say that KK has the best donut in US? Or am I reading ur post incorrectly? How would u rate the KK donuts here compared to those sold in the US? If the quality/taste differs due to the quality of ingredients available in various countries, then perhaps the topic title should be changed to "which donut is more delicious in malaysia?"

lyminn, I meant 'the best in the US'. That's where I was and that's where I tasted all the donuts. I cannot claim the same for other countries since I never tasted their donuts before.
aisan-Malaysian,
Interesting question. Very hard to answer too.. Let's start a new thread on this. I believe it deserves it's own space. I will call the new thread: Sarawak KoloMee and Hakka Mee.

come on la, don't be pedantic. There's never The Best anything... everyone here has different taste buds and we like different things. Granted, there are certain characteristics that respond well to our ingrained genetic 'good/bad' triggers but that's about it. Usually, we naturally crave for sweet stuff and fatty food.
So don't change the title whatever, just answer it in the spirit of the question. You like the donuts here in malaysia, which company? easy peasy.
I'm happy to see that our local donuts is giving JCO a run for the money nevertheless. Regardless, JCo does have some fantastic donuts!
As for dunkin donuts, I'm surprised they haven't all gone bust. Gone were the days when Dunkin Donuts made my day. It used to be great, but nowdays its like eating stale bread. Do you know I've come upon some donuts infested with bugs a couple of times? I bought those at the petrol stations I think which used to carry dunkin donuts. Seriously, if I was their marketing manager, I'll take a page out of JCo. They know how to make real donuts.
