kampung baru is just too far away, so my family and i decided to dine at its restaurant in ttdi jaya. my first impression- wow! nothing like the one in kampung baru. very classy and neat deco.

but i didnt know i was going for my worst dining experience.. :(

so we ordered. our drinks arrived 20minutes later! and only 10minutes later, a waiter came to us and said the sambal udang and rendang daging is finished. my mum said "awalnya dah habis" (becoz it was only 845pm) and guess what the waiter said? "awal apenye saya dah berpeluh ni lama". and so we change our orders. after 50minutes from the point of ordering, we got our nasi lemak. my mum on the other hand, ordered mee goreng. and she got her mee goreng 20minutes later! we've all finished our nasi lemak at that time (hungry from waiting). and the sad thing is, the chicken is still raw! it was only cooked on the tiniest outer layer, and the meat is still 'spongy' and transparent-red. eww! we tried to call the supervisor (who wore white shirt). he saw us, he gave us the 'hold on' sign, get busy, and then he never came back for us! he was totally MIA. well, we cant wait to get out of his place. so we called for our bills. and when the bill came, they overcharged us for the previous orders that were finished (sambal udang and rendang daging). both the orders that we add later and the ones that we canceled were in the bill. so the waitress went to correct the bill (need i say more waiting time?). she came back, and she stood by us as we were checking the bills. and suddenly, one of the supervisor came and scold the waitress in front of us! "lain kali hantar bil, lepas tu pegi buat benda lain, jangan tunggu je". we were stunned! oh myy..

we left the place.. total time spent at the restaurant was 2 hours 30 minutes. we should watch a movie instead! it was a horrible experience. we were so disappointed. i'd rather eat the original nasi lemak antarabangsa at kampung baru, regardless of its sloppy place.

Oh dear. I read this thread in anticipation of a nearby place for me to have my NL fix. Looks like that's not happening.

I have heard so much comments about this place. Mostly negative tho. I applaud them for trying to move to the next level but I think they now understand the quantum of effort required to leap from a village operation into a well oiled restaurant. Sometimes it takes years. Whilst I support local people going more international, there is just no excuse from RM60 for 2 plates of Nasi Lemak unless it is very outstandingly good. They still have a lot to learn. Hope that they are able to.

I didn't really want to start on this thread myself, but since someone else did might as well add my own thoughts to the matter.

Its sad but true, and I've been to two of the other franchise outlets; bangsar and ampang point.

The gist is the service is bad and the sambal is a joke. Never ever buy the rendang.

I want to support them but as a new franchise they don't even bother to gain customer feedback. Where are the managers? Who is doing market study to see if customers are taking to the concept? As long as they don't fulfil basic service standards, these restaurants are going bust. As for the food quality, well... one would expect better levels of nasi lemak. As it is, they don't stand a chance to mak wanjor and etc.

To me, just as the original stall shouts out of arrogance and poor quality, so does the children follow suit. Too bad really.

They really do have one of the worst excuses for a rendang I have ever eaten, Teh Beng. As a Malaysian, Im almost as embarrased about it as I am about our current reputation in treating foreign maids. Malaysian franchies have a history of running before they can walk. Anyone remember Satay Ria or that murtabak franchise?

Spitez, they do have a website and contact particulars that include an e-mail address.

http://www.nasilemakantarabangsa.com/

Why not e-mail them a complaint about your experience and see if you get a response?

FYI, there's a sate ria in shah alam next to plaza masalam. I haven't given it a go yet... but I might for nostalgia's sake.

As for the foreign maids, well... those we see are but a fraction of the truth. At the end of the day, abuse of human beings who are weaker than us is intrinsic in the primitive mindset. Yes there are some who allow it to happen like those you see in the papers. Yet the vast majority of employers who treats their maids well are never reported upon.

And so the indonesians make a big fuss of it all. Yet they are the worst culprits when it comes to human abuse. See how well developed jakarta is compared to the other areas of indonesia. By pointing fingers at singapore and malaysia, the government (or people in power) basically diverts the attention of the down trodden to the evil foreigners.

This holds true anywhere. In our country, US, UK whatever...

More complaints from someone who went to the NLA branch in Shah Alam. Said that just the nasi and sotong came to RM8.50 which is kinda pricey for shah alam and wasnt any good either.

it's such a shame coz tourist might think that this is Malaysia's signature place to be but the service is terrible. yeah i will address this to the officials and i hope they'll do something about it. the 'upgraded' franchise are giving bad names to the original nasi lemak antarabangsa.

I live in TTDI Jaya and the NLA restaurant is not a popular place among the residents here either...Went to that place once and that would seem to be the last for me and some of my neighbours...(a daily morning ritual...go mkn n pick up children from school). bad service n overpriced...

Im not sure if this has come up before but I noticed that the workers in the Nasi Lemak Antarabangsa restaurant in Bangsar wear aprons that say Nasi Lemak Tanglin. Is there some sort of a tie up between the two?

Interesting! I am not sure if they are even related. Quite funny. Maybe when I go to Tanglin, i'll look out for an Antarabangsa apron

Now the sign for the restaurant in Telawi sez Nasi Lemak Tanglin with no mention of Nasi Lemak Antarabangsa. I went to Tanglin this morning and asked one of the staff who confided that they are the ones who have been preparing the nasi lemak and lauk for the branches which only does things like fry the chicken! Forget about APCO! Leave that french submarine at Subway! This is a scandal five times more pedas than any nasi lemak sambal!! What can be trusted when a diner cant even be sure if his nasi lemak is antarabangsa or tempatan? I hope that Friedchilies will be able to get to the bottom of this.

Thanks for checking, Adly. I cant be alone in feeling somewhat disconcerted at this development. Both nasi lemak stalls can each be considered KL institutions in their right with Nasi Lemak Antarabangsa going back to the seventies and Tanglin nasi lemak going even further back to the Sixties. They really should explain what is going on. Considering the express signage at the Telawi branch, its very surprising that the media hasnt looked into it.

Tanglin used to have a branch in bangsar as well... but I think they operated as a stall out of a landlord restaurant. Maybe the tie up was a question of convenience. However, makes no difference for me. Nasi Lemak Antarabangsa has worm its way out of my grace. Neither the branches or its HQ lives up to my expectations. Calling it a KL institution is an insult to others I would think. Part of the reason being, the family does not have their ego in check. They should think back to the quality they had when they first started out and start serving their customers again, instead of treating us like beggars who they indulge occasionally with their cooking.

I recently brought some indonesian friends to Mak Wanjor down the road, and they were amazed. One was a nasi lemak lover and fell in love with the sambal. Another really has no attachment to nasi lemak, but really digged mak wanjor's.

So if you want real nasi lemak rice, good sambal...then you know where to go.

Yes, Tehbeng, I recall the short lived stall Tanglin had in a mamak stall on the same row as the Pos Office.

Regardless of current lapses in quality, when a nasi lemak has been around for over 3 decades and has the kind of exposure and popularity that nasi lemak antarabangsa has had(even before this branching out business began), it deserves to be called an institution. Not that I would consider it the best nasi lemak available in KL by a long shot.

Yeah like adly said. Just go down the same road about 30m. Its has a high roof and you should try it at least once.

They have a morning and night shift. Relatives, and quite similar to each other.

Actually its all good but I'm also craving for those good old days when you have nasi lemak bungkus and the sambal oil has leaked into the newspaper wrappings. Inside you find the kankung is soft, the nuts are cruncy, the cucumbers crispy, the eggs are wholesome (not like those 1/12th of a slice you get nowdays), and the rice are whole and tasty. Where are all those people? What happen to those good people? Have they lost their good fight to these evil mass produced ones like the ones you get at the short lived err petrol station that I can't remember the name of? Used to be I can pop over to those mamak stalls by the side streets and get one of these. Or some makcik will sell off her red plastic basket near a school in the mornings. All these are gone! I don't think I've seen one of those stalls in operation for a long time, at least not one that I'll want to eat in... only Jakarta still have those lone wolf going around plying their trade.
