Folks - here's a question for you all....

My wife has just seen a couple of scale models of hawker stalls - each about 7 inches by 5 inches, complete with wok, foodstuffs, displays, gas cylinders etc. etc. The models were of a very high quality and came complete with glass display cases. She saw them in the window of a Thai restaurant somewhere just outside of the British Museum, London.

Has anyone ever heard of anything like this before, or know of any websites/retailers of these models? My wife is keen to have one as it reminds her of her youth in Malaysia.

There's an article in The Star last week. Due to the migration interval, BabeKL was not able to post this in. Reposted :

saw these in the papers, they looked so good!

An update on this one...

After Googling for ages I gave up and phoned the restaurant where we originally saw the models. I spoke with the owner and he said that the models were on sale at £100 each. Now that's probably a huge markup on their cost price but not outrageous by UK standards. Apparently the models are sold by a market trader in Thailand and the restaurant import them to the UK.

If anyone is interested, the UK restaurant is the Thai Garden Cafe in Museum Street, London. If you're visiting London you'll find this directly opposite the main entrance to the British Museum - just go about 50 yards down the street and it's on the right hand side. The models are displayed in the restaurant's window.
