I know this should really be in another thread somewhere, but the way things are going in Kopitiam, I don't want to leave a pink elephant for the dust.
Anyway, I have a suggestion either for FC TV or investigative piece or whatever... why don't you do something on the hospital food and cafeterias in Malaysia? Start with KL if you want cause we have loads of hospitals here...
UM has the typical cafeteria that reminds me of the food from MRSM and other SBPs...
HUKM has a slightly better cafe cause they operate almost like a hawker style approach.
Gleneagles... well it has an appropriately pricey cafe.
the list goes on and on... I'd be interested to see if you can get this piece in collaboration with the Star or Malay Mail or something and make a big show of it all.
Afterall, everyone here's been to the hospital at least once in their life. And a lot of us has to eat the shoddy or dubious food they slog out there. Not to mention all the doctors and staff eating the same ol same ol each day.
Ha! Ha! I knew someone will bring up this topic sooner or later. Anyway, we all know about how bad food can be in a hospital but there is a piece of good news. We are currently working on a piece where the food is actually more than decent. And it is h-o-s-p-i-t-a-l food. Will keep you posted.
Really, the food in the hospital is really bad, especially in public hospital. I think the private hospital would serve better food. This is 2009, there are still no improvement in the hospital food. I don't know when they are going to change. If you compare the hospital food in the USA, UK or even Singapore, Malaysian hospital food is the worst. What are the dietition and chefs are doing at the hospitals??????
Hate to break it to you, shah2, but food in most local private hospitals isnt good either. The thing is there are many other aspects that could use improvement in local hospitals that take priority well over the food. The main thing is management. Singapore is known for its management so a lot of it is better handled. We chuck good money after bad with little thought for management and later expect the AG or the MACC to do the PM. On the plus side, you can hope that the powers that be will locate the proposed 1Malaysia clinics with an eye towards their gastronomic appetites rather than their usual financial ones.
Well, I've been to that place several times and some of the food they serve to the patients are ok... much better than any hospital food I've eaten. But never had the chance to eat at the cafe itself... since they close pretty early. I think 8ish or something. I mean come on la, if we visit ppl after work, we're only going to get famished around that time right? jeez... and there are no vending machines as well...
Hi,
Hospital food, like in any eatery, varies from place to place, and the standard of the person in charge of the preparation.
Salt is a big no no in diets nowadays, and as some people have to have salt free diets, and the food is prepared on a mass scale, then it is easier to make to one standard.
