Hi RedEye, welcome to Malaysia! Just FYI, this chicken rice ball is not easily available. There are 2 shops in Malacca offering this and selected places in KL.

Hi Redye, My Kitchen in Sunway Mas in PJ does pretty good chicken rice balls, you can check them here. http://www.friedchillies.com/index.php/site/detail/my-kitchen-revisited/
It is not too easy to get the tips how to prepare chicken rice as they are most demanded food in the Malaysia i think you have to follow your friend or any other person who is known to you and know how to prepare it unless you know that it is difficult for you to prepare it by yourself.

Chicken rice balls actually originated from Muar, not Melacca. It's a common error, look it up!
The rice balls in Muar are much bigger and cheaper than those of in Melacca. But the chicken they sell together with are bad! No worries, plenty of place to buy good pork meat in Muar.
Errmmm according to my Hainanese friend, her mother used to make plain rice balls for her dad to bring to the farm for lunch. This is back in Hainan Island before her mother migrated here. According to her mother, rice compacted into balls can be eaten easily using hands as they won't be bringing chopsticks/utensils along. If not mistaken the balls were wrapped in cloth. As for dishes, I've no idea how.
