This Chef was born into cooking in his family’s renowned Thai restaurant ‘Sa Nguan See’ where he officially started working full time in the kitchen at the age of 13. After a variety of experience around the world Saveur named him the “Best Young Chef in Bangkok” for the Traditional category as well as in ‘Food Innovation’.

Chef Chumpol kept the audience rapt with his cooking tips

Yesterday at MAHT he cooked up a Tom Yam and Pad Thai that was fiery and delicious! A mélange of flavours that the audience thoroughly enjoyed. After the show we got the chance to sit down with him and delve deeper into his passion for food.

What inspired you to be a Chef?

I have been cooking since 7years old in my family’s restaurant. I also love to travel and learn about other cultures through food.

Favourite food: I of course love my Thai food, but in Malaysia my favourite is cencalok. I love it! I must always have this when I am here. I usually cut fresh chillies and squeeze lime over it. It's delicious!

I love those little prawns in that salty pink sauce

Favourite ingredient to work with: Fresh herbs. Especially lemongrass!

Advice for aspiring Chefs:
There are three things…first you must have heart and passion…you must really love food. Second you cannot be scared to work very hard…and last you must always be willing to learn about other cultures, other foods, and from other chefs.

Catch him today (Wednesday 4th) @1pm and 5pm where he will be cooking all the Thai curries, green, red and panang and (Thursday 5th) @1pm where he will be cooking fragrant stir-fried beef + mango salad. All events are @ Lot10 Concourse area.

Delicious tom yum gung!
