Come this Saturday, BBQ celebrity chef Robert Rainford gets a "License To Grill" in Kuala Lumpur. Brought in by the Asian Food Channel with sponsors from amongst others BBQ King and the Berjaya University College of Hospitality, Rainford will be sharing some of his BBQ secrets in a soldout lunch workshop followed by a BBQ dinner with him at Bangsar Village. Fans who were lucky enough to secure tickets to the dinner will be tantalised by Rainford's BBQ creation of Brick Chicken, Rubbed and Grilled Beef Tenderloin and Onion Water Lamb Chop.

In a media conference held recently, Rainford mentioned that inspiration for his recipes comes from his family. Born in Jamaica where there is an amazing BBQ tradition, he migrated to Canada at a tender age of three. He is the youngest of five and actually has a twin brother which is older by several mere minutes! In 1994, he enrolled at the George Brown College and by 1999, he was working with Chef Ned Bell at Senses.

His BBQ philosophy is to just start with the freshest ingredients and then choose to either slow cook over low indirect heat or 'red hot and smokin' for fast grilling. One of his BBQ preference is that he loves to cook with acid (like citrus) as it tenderises the meat. He says that a good tip in marinating is that 'acid' allows the marinade to seep in the meats faster so the marinate time can be shortened. Group Managing Director and owner, Mr. M.H. Basri shares his excitement with our News Team recently. He mentioned that sponsoring Rainford in KL is a very logical choice for them and that with all the tickets being sold out for his workshop and dinner, they are very optimistic about the BBQ market in Malaysia. He added that as there are more affluent Malaysian's now, they are looking at BBQ's to entertain their friends and families.
If you are not lucky enough to secure tickets for the event, License to Grill featuring Chef Robert Rainford is currently airing on the Asian Food Channel, Monday to Friday at 8pm throughout the month of June 2009.
