Maggi will be launching a new line of healthy instant noodles soon. This new product will have its noodles made from Atta Wheat Flour (the stuff they make chapati from) instead of the normal refined flour versions. Also, this has no MSG, high fibre and protein content and promises to be a healthier choice from the normal product line. Families in a hurry and need the occasional quick noodle fix can now have less worries about nutritional values that is associated with instant noodles. Good News!

From a quick research, we found that they have introduced this line in India a few years ago but perhaps now decided that Malaysia is ready for this product. This would probably explain the Chapati Keema flavour. Also, Maggi have taken the trouble to formulate a Mee Rebus version of the noodle. Currently, we are only aware about these 2 flavours. Preparation is slightly different from normal. Sticking to the 2 minute policy, the Atta version needs to be boiled in 300ml of plain water for 2 minutes and then ONLY contents of two sachets added in and cooked for an additional minute. One sachet contains the stock and the other dried vegetables such as peas, carrots, onions etc.
A quick taste test yields that this is not as flavourful as the normal MSG laden maggi (no surprises there!) but provides a healthy base flavour. For example, the Mee Rebus version has the fundamental taste of the original, lacks kick but 'feels' healthy. The addition of an egg (added just after adding sachet contents) and some fried sliced beef provides a better taste profile. This means that the noodles can be treated as a blank canvass for people to add any other ingredients that suites their taste. We suspect that these healthy versions can help move the brand in Malaysia as a better option for mothers who feed the noodles to children as an afterschool snack, which are probably going to be the primary customers of this brand.
I've been buying the msg free maggee for sometime now, but the problem is it went missing from the supermarkets for the last month or so. That either means everyone's gone nuts for it, or (the more likely) its off the shelf because there's no demand.
Hopefully this line makes the cut.
