The one major gripe I have about good ice cream here in Malaysia is that you either have to fork out a lot of dosh on a small imported tub of Ben and Jerry’s or you settle for the local made varieties that aren’t unique in flavour and often don’t taste much like ice cream.
This is where The Last Polka fills in the gap. They create homemade ice cream right here in KL made with 100% natural ingredients. What makes it even better is that they combine the creaminess of French-style ice cream with comforting Asian flavours.

These were the little sample tubs of Nutella and White Coffee
My interest peaked when I heard of their specialty, the Horlicks flavour. It is without a doubt my favourite mamak beverage. It was their obsession with creating the perfect Horlicks ice cream that got them started in the ice cream business. Other interesting choices are the Malt and Peanut Butter, White Coffee. There are also some more common choices like the Black Sesame and Green Tea.
We knew we had to place an order and try these unique flavours out. While I was initially excited with the Horlicks flavour it was really the Malt and Peanut Butter that blew me away. I enjoy the deep rich flavour of peanut butter and what’s even better is that this doesn’t get stuck to the roof of your mouth! The Horlicks one is very creamy but I was just a tad disappointed that the subtle horlicks flavour was not shining through. It was overpowered by the intense milky creaminess. Perhaps a few chunks of the horlicks candy strewn throughout might give it more texture and added flavour. Yummy!

This bowl is an ice cream lovers dream come true
The Black Sesame and Green Tea are also very good and especially creamy. They are an acquired taste though, with the green tea lending its slight bitterness to cut through the sweetness and the black sesame having a bold powerful flavour. Coffee fans would totally enjoy the White Coffee as it is smooth and powerfully rich in the coffee aroma. As a special treat The Last Polka let us sample a new flavour they are currently working on…Nutella! This one tastes like you’re eating freezing cold nutella straight out of the jar. It will win any chocolate lovers heart over.
I hear they are currently working on a Ribena concoction. We will definitely be looking out for that!
Do give The Last Polka a try especially if you enjoy local flavours. All you need to do is log on to their site and place an order and a pickup time and location will be sorted out as soon as they receive your form. Their ice cream comes in one standard size: the little polka, 500ml for RM 23.

I tried to order from the website, and have not even gotten a confirmation since last night. What...we're suppose to wait for their call to go pick up the goods when they're free? Jeez... New Zealand wins hands down.

Hey TehBeng, sorry about the lack of a response on our part. We've been swamped with orders and our machine also just died on us so we're trying to sort that out.
What the article doesn't mention is that we're actually a little 2-person DIY creamery still operating out of our apartment. It's all small-batch productions so that our customers get only the freshest goods. We're not a parlour (yet), and we do try to meet orders as quickly as they come in. So yes: if you do need a quick ice cream fix, I'm with you on New Zealand. But if you want to try The Last Polka's ice cream sometime, I'd be happy to fill your order — which may take a bit longer than usual, but will probably be worth the wait.
Drop me an email at if you're interested (I can't identify which one is you from the list of orders that just came in); and once again my apologies for the (lack of/late) response.
cheers
May, The Last Polka
PS. Alexa/Alia: thanks for the heads up

Heh Heh... I was the one with the:
1. Nuttella
2. White Coffee
3. Malt and Peanut butter
order. To be picked up somewhere in Subang Jaya.
If you can whip it up by Wednesday late afternoon then I'll be looking forward to tasting your home made stuff. I'll email you again anyway...

Well here goes...
The ice cream itself is good, pretty much like a Gellato.Rich and creamy without being over powering. We can see its made from good ingredients, because it doesn't ice up or harden in the freezer so much.
Flavours:
1. Nutella - was better than the one I had in Jakarta recently, but nothing to shout about. Its like good chocolate ice cream really. Perhaps something added to the texture would bring it out better.
2. White coffee - this again is ok. Problem with white coffee as a flavour in a ice cream is that a lot of subtleness is lost. I suppose, an ice creams needs much more intenseness to make it shine. A mix of white coffee and perhaps some aromatic kapal brand thrown in for good measure might do the trick.
3. Malt and peanut butter. Easily the best flavour of the lot. Everyone likes this.

Had tried all flavors except green tea. All is good. Would recommend Mango flavor if you like fruit ice cream. Can't resist finishing the whole 500mL in one go
Looking forward to your new creation. I heard rumors of a bacon ice cream ^^
