We were rather surprised to find this hidden little place for dim sum. China Treasures serves halal dim sum and also has an extensive Chinese menu including favourites such as Peking duck and shark’s fin soup. Also lazily swimming around in an aquarium tank are fat delectable lobsters but that, I’m afraid is another review altogether.
First, we were pleased to see that they offered us a bigger table even if there were only three of us (they were probably astounded by the quantity of food we ordered!) The usual steamed dim sums came like prawn dumplings and siew mai. The chicken char siew was just a nice size with fluffy buns to sink your teeth into. Also the steamed stuff were tasty and not too big. Not that we complain about places that give large fat portions of prawns. However, I am always of the opinion that dim sum should come in small bite sized pieces so that you can order a wide selection without getting too full.
The servings here were just the right size. We highly recommend the carrot cake, which is crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Also the egg tarts were delectable. The pastry was wonderfully crumbly complementing the lovely filling. I could eat ten of these. Again, they were just the right pop-in-your-mouth size.
"Warm duck rolls with plum sauce"
Right about now the half Peking duck we ordered came, well glazed and roasted to a deep honey colour. The servers stripped off the crispy skins and then rolled it in rice flour pancakes with spring onions, cucumbers and rich plum sauce. This was good though I do prefer some of the flesh to include in the pancake (I like my duck rolls plump drooling with sauce). Alas! This was altogether a different dish (usually called aromatic crispy duck) and we were content to wait for the flesh to come back fried with crispy noodles.
The duck pieces were fried in a brown gravy with an assortment of vegetables and then poured over crunchy noodles. This was really good but by this time we had pretty much eaten so much dim sum, we were unable to do it much justice. It does bode well for their cooked dishes though so if you don’t fancy dim sum we believe that they also serve good ala carte.
All in all, this was a satisfying dim sum sojourn. True, it did not shake our tastebuds to another plane but sometimes all you really want is good wholesome food and attention to quality. Some restaurants today concentrate too much on being stylish or over creative that they neglect the true blue dishes that brings the regular punters in. China Treasures knows their foundation well and treats it with respect. Come here and we guarantee your dim sum cravings will be sated.

there is a nice spread of Chinese dimsum restaurants facing a main road in Sri Petaling. A nice spot on a Sunday morning for those who love variety at a reasonable price
