The most unassuming places will sometimes take you by surprise. Hing Loong is one of them. The original Hing Loong originates from Malacca. One of the partner's mum happens to be Taiwanese. That's where the Taiwanese connection comes from. The Malacca one is actually a coffeeshop. According to the owner, the granddad of one of Hing Loong owners has two similar shops in Taiwan and the business in Taiwan had has a history of 50 years. The shop in Malacca has a 25 year history! Wow!

Let's waste no more time. Taiwanese Style Grilled Sausages is recommended. Now, I am a bit apprehensive when it comes to sausages made by non-Western people. These tend to have wax-like texture and I must say after eating it all these years, I have never acquired the taste. However, at Hing Loong, it's a different story. It does not taste even close to its counterparts in Malaysia. The pork ingredients is a bit sweet akin to sausages made European style. This one has a hint of garlic. Garlic and sausages go well together.. yummy! Effortlessly we finished it, of course!

"Great eastern-style sausages"

Next, we had Stew Dried Bean Curd and Egg. This is pleasant to eat. I think it goes well as an appetizer or a side dish to complement the noodles that we had next. This one has a slight sour taste. Nevertheless, a fairly good effort.

Aaahh.... this is a specialty in Taiwan probably as famous as sweet and sour pork in Malaysia. It's called Deep Fried Boneless Marinated Chicken. The flour is from Malacca. This one, I thought was a tad bit mild and lacking in flavor. It however looks similar to the sweet and sour pork we have in Malaysia.

We also tried out one of their signature dishes which is the Shanghai Deep Fried Pork Chop Noodles. This is a favorite among the people in Malacca frequenting their Malacca outlet. The noodle is quite smooth and it tasted like the noodles were made from soy bean. It has a stronger texture than kuey teow and keeps its shape quite well. The Deep Fried Pork is quite flavorful and also quite tender . Personally, I think its better to eat the Deep fried Pork with the soup rather than the dry 'kicap' (dark soy sauce) version.

My favorite will be the Szechuan Spicy Beef Noodles. Apart from chunks of beef, Hing Loong also throws in beef tendon in the noodles. If you've not tried this, just try it, even once is enough. But then again, I'm a big tendon lover. Hing Loong's slightly spicy but to most Malaysians it's a walk in the park. You must eat this if you like beef. Lastly, Hing Loong has a good setting for family dining. Taiwanese and Mainland Chinese patrons do come here as well so it shows they appreciate how this place reminds them of home cooked food.

Pros:

Cons: Not everything on the menu is good
