Milwaukee Steak Corner

Someone once said that drivers experience a more potent road rage on an empty stomach. And one knows that the jams on Federal Highway can be quite epic. Here's one of those places that you can detour to and feed that raging monster.

Awhile back, I was stuck in a traffic jam along the Federal Highway and for the umpteenth time when I looked left at the Naza showroom compound, there it is. Right between the Harley Davidson and the Ferrari showroom- Milwaukee Steak Corner. It was half full of people laughing away, sipping coffee and having what looked like steaks and nasi lemak from a far distance. Today is the day… I am going there! Somehow, 20 minutes later I managed to weasel my way into the friggin’ slip road that takes me to the showroom and food...

I must say, this is a cosy place to have a nice meal and at the same time sit out the traffic. The place serves both local and western food from mushroom cream soup to chicken chops and nasi lemak. Prices are reasonable with the most expensive being the Grilled Spare Beef Ribs at RM45. But on average, food is about RM15 per dish.

Surprisingly, my favourite here is the Nasi Lemak with Chicken Curry. Here's a couple of things I like in their version. Firstly, the chicken curry is not too spicy and balances well with the coconut rice. Secondly, the rice itself is perhaps a mix of broken basmathi and normal rice (maybe) but this gives the rice a flavour that is not too overpoweringly ‘coconuty’ and at the rice itself has less starch and not ‘glutinious-like’. I like. Thirdly, the nuts drove me nuts. It’s the kind that you eat a whole tubful while watching a movie. A good choice to serve them on this plate. A nice symphony of flavours for RM8.90

"Detour, relax and refuel"

Steaks are not half bad. Grilled Rib Eye for RM25.90? Couldn’t resist trying. This is best prepared medium. Comes with steamed broccoli, fries and homemade coleslaw. At this price, good value for what you get. Tender enough, coleslaw that is delicious and black pepper sauce that gives the steak a bit more kick. Finish off with their RM4.00 cup of cappuccino.

Apparently, from their website (Warning: Got cheezy music and stuff) they have a branch in Kepong and Cheras. This one at Naza is not listed. Perhaps this is the secret one. The entrance is actually at Jalan 222, just opposite the old Honda showroom. Yes, that little dinky slip road off Jln 222. Who would have thought?!

Overall, this corner is a nice place to hang out. Hence a mention in the Foodsters Top 50 2009 # 43 as “Most Unexpected Encounter”. Where else can you get a plate of nasi lemak sandwiched between a Ferrari and a Harley? But, the minus points is that there is no air-conditioning here. Stay away from the dry over-fried spring chicken but come back for their steaks, nasi lemak and to watch the occasional Harley Davidson bikes and Ferrari’s zooming past and parking right in front of the restaurant. Also, you get to laugh at all the motorists stuck in the traffic jam wishing they were somewhere else...

Opens everyday from 10am – 10pm

Pros: Prices are reasonable, Can get both western and local dishes in one place

Cons: Aiyah! No air-conditioning. Have to lepak at the Harley Showroom pretending to buy a bike.

Address: Milwaukee Steak Corner Lot 1480 Jalan 51A/221 Petaling Jaya, Selangor

actually we have been to their Balakong (Cheras to some) main branch for many years but we find the quality seems to have dropped but yet it's still drawing the crowd. perhaps there isnt such place around the area LOL

anyway the boss is a Harley owner, so dat explains why its next to the showroom!
