Fried chicken is like the go to side dish for a nasi lemak nowadays. Some nasi lemaks are even judged based on how good their fried chicken is. With that being said, Nasi Lemak Ayam Crunchy is a popular nasi lemak spot at Taman Kosas. With a name that boasts the crunchiness of its fried chicken, we decided to test it out, along with the nasi lemak that it comes with, of course.

The nasi lemak at Crunchy is fragrant and slightly clumpy (not that it’s a bad thing), you can enjoy the nasi lemak just by itself. The amount of coconut milk is very subtle keeping the dish fairly light.The sambal is quite liquidy (not oily), has a sweet taste that slightly overwhelms the spiciness. Their base is actually the uncomplicated yet popular sambal ikan bilis.

Started by Encik Yunus Khan back in 2008, he rebounded from one location to another until he settled in Taman Kosas. He developed all the recipes with his wife; nowadays he is selling an average of 30kg of rice a day.

They serve the 'cair' type of sambal that you can mix in with the rice.

The star of the show - the fried chicken, is what I expected to be, juicy and succulent. The skin is not the crunchiest crispiest chicken skin out there, but it does come at a close second, with a nice texture that will definitely garner many fans.

People come here for this, freshly fried crunchy chicken......

What is special though, is that they give you a heaping amount of kerak. The kerak may look like a block of fried batter, but once you dug your fork into it, it has a very light texture. The kerak is very crunchy and has an almost shaved ice texture to it ( ZOMG its so crunchy).

One of the main reasons they achieve this with their fried chicken is the usage of a deep fryer and their ability to fry the chicken at the correct temperature, to achieve the right crunchiness without too much grease.

Nasi Lemak Crunchy just opened their new branch at Taman Kosas, while the other branch is located at the nearby food court. At night, the restaurant is packed with hungry patrons. Nasi Lemak Ayam Crunchy has things going for them with their unique fried chicken. A definite must try if you love good ole' fried chicken.
