Bloomin' Onions! Today, we're tuckering in an Aussie joint in BB Park called The Outback Steakhouse (OBS). Despite its Aussie name, OBS actually started in Florida on an inspiration from the movie Crocodile Dundee. Nevertheless, the menu is full of Strine (Australian Language) expressions such as tucker which means food. Starting from Aussie-Tizers to bonzer salads and down to land rovers (which are all categories of dishes here), some of the them are rather a 'bewdie'.... let's see which one ...
Whatever it is, the Grilled Shrimp on the Barbie is something shrimp fans would love. Grilled with OBS's very own seasoning, this one oozes with taste and has won oohhhh and ahhs all round the table. It is served with remoulade sauce but I think it was the seasoning and freshness that made this dish disappear within three minutes of it hitting the table.
Salad fans... you'll love this too. A hit with us was the Queensland Salad where you get seasoned chicken salad served on a bed of fresh greens with Monterey Jack and Cheddar Cheese, beef bacon, chopped eggs, tomato and toasted almonds. If you're a shrimp person, their Brisbane Shrimp Salad is actually a Ceasar Salad with Grilled Shrimps on top.
"Get yourself a Land Rover"
Their steak menus are called Land Rovers. Roving along, their Prime Minister's Prime Ribs comes in 12 and 8 ounce cuts, oven roasted....slowly. Their version of prime ribs are quite unique. Firstly, their medium rare version is rare and well done is actually the Malaysian version of medium well. Secondly, since the prime ribs are not slapped with any sauce, if you like some flavour other than tender meat, you need to 'Do-It-Yourself season' them yourselves. They do provide the sauces in separate cups so you have a choice on whether to have the steak with or without them
The Outback Rack....what can I say...love this one. The 14 ounce rack of lamb is served with non-alcoholic Cabernet sauce and is just oozing in flavour. I love the special meat seasoning they used in preparing the ribs. Not only were the ribs tender, they were also flavourful. To make things better, this dish comes with its own side salad and fries. Loved the garlic croutons in the salad and loved the fries too. OBS uses good grade potatoes and with their special potato seasoning, the fries here could easily make it into the top ten best fries in KL.
Botany Bay Fish O' The Day is OBS's version of fresh salmon, lightly seasoned and grilled accompanied with some fresh vegetables. We noticed that OBS likes to separate their sauces from the meats so that you get the 'original' marinated meat flavour instead of letting the sauce overpower the natural flavours. OBS believes in serious food, concentrated service and a term they coined as 'no rules, just right'. That means they will try their best to accommodate your food requests.
