Sloppy Joes

Sloppy Joes is one of America’s most favourite childhood meal. It takes no time to cook and tastes pretty amazing. If you find too much ketchup unhealthy, use more passata. But hey, it is OK to treat yourself once in a while…

The iconic fairground food!

Serves 4 people

Make a quick chilli by adding a can of chilli beans to this and 1-2 tbsp of chilli paste while sautéing.

Grate some Mozzarella cheese onto your Joes for some stringy, cheesy goodness.

INGREDIENTS
    500g minced beef
    1 tbsp. oil
    1 onion, diced
    1 green capsicum, diced
    2 cloves garlic, minced
    ½ cup tomato passata
    ½ cup tomato sauce
    2 tsp. American mustard
    1 tsp. vinegar
    ½ tsp. sugar
    Pinch of cayenne pepper
    Pinch of black pepper
    Salt to taste
METHOD

1. Sauté garlic, onion and capsicum until slightly soft, 5 mins.



2. Add in minced meat and stir well. Break it up into small pieces.

3. Add in the tomato passata, tomato sauce, mustard, vinegar and sugar and mix well. Cook until the sauce slightly thickens.


4. Season with cayenne pepper, black pepper and salt. Taste and adjust salt and sugar to your preference.

5. Serve in burger buns or use it as a meat sauce for a pasta dish.
