"Nothing like fresh cockles with a spicy dip"
Bagan Lalang is a great place to relax, unwind, enjoy some fresh sea breezes and at the same time, delicious seafood. Believe it or not, this place is just half and hours drive from the Sepang F1 Circuit. Totally different from KL! If you arrive an hour before sunset, you will be amazed at the unspoiled beaches, fine sands and the beautiful sunset. Definitely worth the drive...
Being located close to a fishing village has also given Bagan Lalang a reputation for fresh seafood and there is no shortage of ikan bakar stalls which offers a wide range of other seafood prepared in various styles at reasonable prices. Our favourite is HMS Seri Bagan located on the far left (just before the fishing village) as you get to the beach. They have one section built on stilts that provides guests with a nice view of the sun setting over the horizon.
The fun thing at Seri Bagan is that you get to choose your own seafood. Most of the seafood are sourced from the nearby fishing village so freshness is guaranteed. There is a whole assortment of fishes from siakap, garoupa, seabass, kembung and cencaru to choose from. That is not all, they have a healthy stock of flower crabs, bamboo lala, sea prawns and for great appetizers, otak otak. Items are priced per gramme and includes cooking as well.

"So hold up your lobster crackers and get stuck in"
Aren't lobster meals expensive? Nah..you shouldn't think about your wallet when having lobsters especially when you can get them for as low as RM58.00++ per lobster from Lobsterman. No need to travel far, Lobsterman is in SS2. So hold up your lobster crackers, we going in for some American Lobsters!
Lobsterman is situated at the quiet area of SS2 which definitely simplifies parking. The decor is cozy with huge tanks full of live lobsters. You get to droll on the ones you want and select how you want it prepared. There are three different sizes to choose from, Small from RM88.00++ and Medium from RM108.00++. Large has a larger price.
If you want something filling, you will want to have the lobster prepared Heavenly Palace style. It's their specialty. The lobster is cooked in superior soup (made from chicken stock) and cheese before being served with fried yee mee. Lobsters are best eaten fresh and this one is no different. The flesh is very succulent and if you are on a budget, the yee mee will fill in the tummy spaces not filled by the lobsters.

"Fresh fat prawns, enough said"
Sometimes, the aroma of seafood is so strong that we let our stomachs do the driving. This time, it landed us in Tanjung Tualang, Perak. This town is well known for its fresh water prawns and its seafood offerings. How far is it from Ipoh, we hear? It's about forty minutes drive through many palm oil plantations until we arrived at Kim Seng's. Wasting little precious eating time, we ordered sweet and sour crab, teochew steamed cat fish, oyster omelettes, some fried rice and the most irresistible steamed fresh water prawns this side of town!

"This baked fish is not for meek tastebuds"
Errrr... not by the riverbank but by Hong Leong bank along Petaling Street. All the ingredients are about the same except the choice of seafood. Within the dish they put dried chillies, long beans, some lady's fingers and dried shrimps. They then marinate the seafood with the ingredients, wrap it up in aluminium foil and toss it on the grill. The blend of ingredients provide a tasty sauce with the seafood and it’s spicy! This is probably the closest dish to the "white man killer" , a sambal made for me by a friend on a cold London evening many years ago.
This place is packed on all days and you will see many people standing around waiting for seats. After finding a seat, we ordered ikan pari, lala and also the prawns. For drinks all of us had sugarcane. The aroma of grilled seafood permeated the air as we sat waiting for our food. Our favourite has to be the ikan pari. Every time I come here ikan pari is a must. It is very tender and the sauce is very tasty and hot at the same time. A must try!

"A crabby crab does not make a good meal"
Tucked away in Subang Taipan is one of the Crab-loving community's best places to enjoy this crustacean delight. The Honey baked crab is crab ambrosia. Most crab places have their crabs steamed and then have their in-house sauces poured over, giving you tasty gravy and crab inside. With Devil Crab, the chef manages to get the marinade and his secret sauce (mix of honey and spices) into the flesh of the crab. And the sauce caramelises with the crab meat giving you a juicer, tastier bite. The secret is in actually using a covered wok when cooking the crab. That allows the secret sauce to seep deep into the flesh. Ooh, we could go on and on about just the crab. This one more than passed the Foodster test!
All the food served is cooked with balance in mind. The tastebuds are teased and teased into experiencing the tastes, not just tasting them. The Emperor’s Chicken is a variation of traditional chicken dishes but is done just right so the meat falls off the bone without being tough or stringy. Now that takes skill. Steamed with herbs and served with a bottle of Brand's Essence of Chicken poured over it, I felt like an Emperor.
The Otak otak was firm unlike some places where all you get is fish mush. I can actually taste the texture of the fish meat! Made out of tenggiri fish, we like this one too. For vegetables- broccoli shoots. Delicious! Cooked with garlic, these veggies are still green and crisp and yet are cooked to perfection leaving you none of the bitter raw taste most vegetables have.

"Grilled stingray is great with chilli dipping sauce..."
Today, the Foodsters are trying Seafood at Kedai Makanan Laut Bakar Soon Lee! This is Sri Kembangan's best-kept secret. To those who know the place, they just keep coming back. There are those who have heard of the place, but have no idea how to get there.
Also, those who have been there (brought in by some friends) sampled the great food, wanted to come again, but simply cannot trace the route they'd taken. The rest of you out there, this is the place for some great, exotic, on-the-street type Chinese food.
