At Berjaya you can get Wonton, Curry Mee and Mee Soup deliciously prepared and affordable. Everytime I am there, there's always people. It's good. It's been around for more than twenty years, shifted a couple of times but the last few years, Berjaya Restaurant parked itself at Jalan Telawi. They also sell nasi padang.
What's so good about Berjaya? Many many many things. To start with, you have to try the Beef Dendeng. This is a magical dish made out of sliced beef, chili, garlic and onions. The ingredients are simple but the secret is in the way it is fried at Berjaya. The beef is tender and spicy at the same time. Just the right amount of garlic and onions.
"Nothing like wantan noodles in the morning"
The wonton deserves similar praise. I guess that's what twenty years experience gives you. The noodle is crunchy, soy sauce delicious and best of all, the soup and wonton skinned 'fishballs' are absolutely wonderful. You can get really good stuff with some flour, prawns, pepper and wonton skin at this place. Berjaya is one place where the preparation of the meal is as important at the ingredients. They dip the wonton noodles in boling hot water and then run it through cold water for a few seconds. Would that make the noodle crunchier? Why don't you try?
The soup here is also good. Which is why their mee soup or meehoon soup taste equally good. They use a special kind of anchovies in their big pot of soup. You can see tens of it floating happily in their soup cauldron. Anyway, although the owners are Chinese, they are kind enough to cater for Muslims. They get their meat from a halal establishment as the 'Sijil Penyembelihan Binatang Halal' Certificate is displayed at their shop.
