Fortune favours the brave and if you are brave enough to put your money down at Copper Restaurant in Menara Shell, you'll be rewarded with a great meal by a great chef who still thinks that he's just a cook. But we know better, Chef!
So lets start with something we all know. Steaks. Chef Chai's Charcoal Grilled Steaks are grilled over a Pira Charcoal Oven (go google that) and with his skills, comes out just the right kind of delicious. Meat so tender, it cuts like a hot knife thorough butter but that's not all... it's lightly seasoned enough (but not too much) so that you will notice and enjoy the great quality stuff they serve up.
This is not the kind of steak that you cut 3 inches at a time and plonk into you mouth (shame on you). This is steak best enjoyed in smaller cuts, dipped in their dijon mustard, some burnt butter potatoes and (kinda raw) onion parsley onions, which really gives balance to the dish. You see.. onions are rich in quercetin which prevents fat accumulation and boosts metabolism so it's best taken raw. Thats why zaman dulu... satay got onions... understand now?
Chef Chai's Swiss trained expertise makes his dishes more European rather than American which is a breath of fresh air. You'll not go wrong trying their off-menu Crystal Ice Plant Salad which is probably one of the juiciest salads ever! It has a 'dewy' outer layer, like ice crystals frozen on the plant. He sources this from New Zealand. Absolutely sedap just eaten raw with some olive oil, mustard & honey dressing.
Chef Chai runs Copper with his wife Zeehan whom he met in Lucerne, Switzerland years ago. Things clicked in place. Years later, they moved back to Malaysia, opened Copper and never looked back. He cares about what he serves to his customers and fans, sources from local whenever he can and dreams of going organic using Malaysian produce one day.
But for now, you can be content with their Vanilla Panna Cotta made from scratch and beutifully topped with macerated berries, citrus and marigold petals. It tastes as good as it looks folks.
We've not even talked about Chai's delicious Wild Caught White Fish or US Scallops Spaghettini or Charcoal Grilled Spring Chicken or Beef Cheeks or the duck (very gamey.. delicious. But only order if you absolutely love duck). If we did, you'd be reading all day. So...
..our last word... for the same price you'd be paying at some "Tex-Mex" western restaurant, you'd be better off getting your a*s to Copper for triple the taste. Word.
