When it comes to pizza food trucks, there are not many around Klang Valley even with the plethora of food trucks mushrooming around town lately. Wood-fired pizza on a truck you say? Impossible! Or so we thought, until we came across Honcho! Pizza Parlour.

The great pizza truck

Honcho Pizza Parlour is a food truck monster. It is a 5 tonne truck equipped with a wood-fired oven and a mini kitchen to serve you fresh pasta and pizza on order.

Check out that fire

We started off with something conservative which is a beef pepperoni pizza. First the dough is rolled out and a dollop of tomato sauce spread on top.

Spread the love

Next comes a handful of mozzarella and slices of pepperoni.

All ready for the oven

Once the pizza is out of the oven, Kamal slices the pizza and place fresh basil on top. The pizza is served in a pizza box with a Honcho Pizza logo stamped on top. The dough is very thin with crunchy edges, the sides closest to the fire are charred lovingly. The bread underneath the topping is a bit softer from the sauce with just the right amount of cheese and tomato sauce. It's not too much that it overpowers the other ingredients. The fresh basil gives a nice touch of freshness with every bite. Next thing we know, the pizza box is empty. Next pizza please!

Good Old Beef Pepperoni

Next up is a pizza that is simply called White. Upon opening the pizza box I can smell a strong creamy, cheesy aroma. Can you guess why it's called White? The base is similar to a carbonara sauce, and along with the usual mozzarella, some cheddar is mixed in the pizza to give it a good bite. A few slices of beef bacon, button mushrooms, shimeji mushrooms and there you have it. If you are ever in a dilemma whether to have a carbonara or a pizza, then the White is the answer. It's a holy marriage between the two. Boy they knocked this version out of the park.

The mighty white

Lastly we had the smoked salmon pizza. Yes you read that correctly. Smoked salmon. On pizza! My taste buds and tummy are roaring the moment I saw this on the menu and yes, I do listen to their urgings from time to time. This pizza uses a garlic sauce to compliment the fish better, and added to that are cherry tomatoes, rocket leaves and olives. They even put a slice of lemon for people who like a bit of lemon juice on top of their salmon. Me? I prefer it just the way it is. This pizza overall has a lot going on, the salmon and garlic work harmoniously together, the rocket leaves add freshness to every bite and the olives bring more flavour to the table. This could possibly be one of the best pizzas I've had in a while. God, I wish I could have a slice right now, or two.

Heavenly Salmon Pizza

Kamal is the owner and the man behind the pizzas. He takes careful steps in prepping, getting the fire going and even measuring the temperature of the oven before cooking the pizzas.

Gotta get the temperature just right

On average, he sells about 50 pizzas a day. Oh and while you're there, don't be alarmed by the alien. His name is Jodi, and he looks over the beverage and the condiments. “When we started, this whole area is empty, so I brought over Jodi to liven the place up a bit and accompany me,” Kamal explains. Where did he pick up Jodi you ask? Besides selling pizzas on a truck, he also collects action figures.

Hi, I'm Jodi
