Uncle Ooi and his family have been making and selling their famous Karipap since the late 80’s. If you go there often enough, it is always his regulars that flock his stall as soon as it opens at 3 PM everyday.

Well known not only because of it’s monstrous size, his Karipaps also packs a punch the moment you bite into it. First thing you’ll notice is the strong but not overpowering spicy flavour that coats every bit of potatoes and the half hard-boiled egg that’s stuffed into the flaky, crunchy pasty as well. Want one yet?

Speaking of which, even though the Karipap’s crust can be a bit on the thick side, it’s a totally different ball game here with Uncle Ooi. The pastry here is absolutely crunchy, crumbly and very buttery as well. He refuses to let in on the secrets of his Karipaps but we think it’s the combo of spices, expert frying and his passion for it.

Fast forward into the future, now the road side is mostly manned by his son Huan, who handles all the Karipap-related process with the help of his wife and Uncle Ooi himself watching closely. Quality control mah. He will also occasionally help “bungkus” the customer’s order.
