Karipap Telor from Uncle Yeong made the old-fashioned way

Handmade pockets of love, that is how I’d describe Mr. Yeong’s legendary Karipap that is made daily in the wee hours of the night. He insists on making it daily instead of keeping it overnight, to make sure his loyal customers enjoy his labour of love as fresh as possible everyday.

Any fresher, you have to make it yourself.

This is one of the few places in KL that does Karipap Telor (Egg Currypuffs) really really well. And its made fresh everyday. Mr. Yeong started out by helping his mother when she had her own Karipap stall in Bukit Bintang, roughly 50 years ago. After refining his Karipap making skills, he continued the family business by opening his own stall with the help of his sister - in the alley just off Jalan Lekiu in the City Centre.


At first, they only make the classic Potato Curry filled Karipap. The Karipap pastry is so buttery and flaky that it just crumbles and melts in your mouth as you bite into it. Then there’s the rich and chunky homemade Kaya Puffs; there are so delicious, you’d want seconds! The secret to this great Kaya Puff is that he makes his own Kaya filling based on a recipe taught by his mother. You can never go wrong with a family hereditary recipe.


As the years go by, bit by bit, Mr. Yeong decided to add a few more choices to keep up with his customer’s requests, especially with a college nearby. So he figured out some interesting fillings for the younger crowd which includes Curry Puff with Egg, Red Bean Puff, Tuna Puff and the ultimate mouthwatering Fish Fillet Puff! Can’t imagine? It’s just like a Fish-Burger except the fillet and creamy Mayo is inside a deep-fried soft Pau. Layan!
