Food might take a bit of time to be prepared
Located in the most unassuming place, this little gem of a shop is located below Pangsapuri Merak at Bukit Idaman. Don’t be fooled by its mundane appearance as it is usually packed after work hours and we recommend you to call and order in advance before hand. The food is cooked by Yunus Leong himself, one delectable dish at a time.
Tucked away under a block of flats
Specialising in Chinese cuisine that uses Halal ingredients, their top seller is the ever popular Kam Heong Chicken or Kam Heong Fried Rice. Yunus Leong uses chicken breast, chopped it into small bite sized pieces. The overall dish is mildly spicy and very fragrant, as there is curry leaves, lemongrass and dried prawns mixed into the dish.
This dish is a must-try
We also ordered sweet sour siakap, salted egg squid, and sizzling Japanese tofu. The salted egg squid is done perfectly, crunchy salty golden batter that leads into a nice soft squid.
Gimme some of that!
Yunus Leong explains on how he attains the soft squid texture, “temperature is key in every cooking, if you master it you can achieve this”. This is apparent in all of his dishes.
What is it about sweet and sour fish that makes us really happy?
For instance the sweet sour siakap is fish is coated evenly with batter from head to tail and fried to a crisp while the oil is really hot. Topping it off is a sweet sour sauce that will knock your socks off.
Sizzling Japanese tofu
Yunus Leong has been cooking for 10 years with no professional training as a cook. He's just really passionate about. Before we ended our little chat, he left us with some wise words regarding his success, “no matter the person if you force him to do something he doesn’t like he will not do well, but if he likes the subject, he will excel sooner or later”.
