Meatball Kingdom

by Honey on Fri, August 19, 2016

We love meatballs! Especially those that are still juicy inside with a good balance of flavours, served either with gravy or on top of pasta. So for Food Truck Friday this week, we bring you the first meatball truck in town run by a lovely German lady...

Fans of meatballs? Well now you can get your meatball fix whether on pasta, slathered in gravy or in a bun from a food truck. Meatball Kingdom is the first food truck serving Bavarian meatballs. The German part comes by way of Dunia who started it about a year ago.

Recipes are from her family tweaked to suit local tastes. Back in Germany each family has their own meatball recipe, kind of like how each family here will have their own sambal recipe. Both her grandmothers were chefs, one Croation, the other German so her version contains a little something of her heritage.

A typical meatball dish here comes with mash, slaw and gravy of your choice

Back in Germany meatballs are eaten with mustard but she tweaked it to local tastes and offer mushroom and the ever popular black pepper gravies. Meatballs here are packed with meat and moist, the right size for two bites.

Meatballs with spaghetti

Choices are meatball pasta drenched in homemade tomato sauce, a royal bun where a hot dog bun is stuffed with meatballs with a mayonnaise and chilli sauce. You can also have it with mash potatoes, slaw and your choice of sauces.

The Royal Bun

Personally we think her meatballs alone are delicious and would gladly take it home to munch. “We make our meatballs and sausages fresh from fresh meat and don’t mix any other ingredients that doesn’t belong in a meatball,” says the affable Dunia and we can attest to that after visiting her central kitchen.

Pretty meatballs all in a row...

She adds a little garlic to them but keeps it simple and well seasoned. These are then transferred to the truck and brought to their location.

Her meatballs are best in the 'dunia!'

So if you like your meat in flavourful balls check them out. On most lunch times they are parked next to the Ampang Park LRT Station.

Look out for the brown and red truck!
