The winning side dish that always keeps people coming to Ejam is their fried chicken. It’s even more enticing when paired with a dark crimson sambal and rice richly-flavoured with coconut. It’s no surprise that Ejam has been a favourite for residents of Malacca for more than 7 years.
The rice is steamed, so it has a lovely pandan fragrance and rich taste. The banner at their stall proudly says 100% kukus ( 100% steamed ), they don’t believe in shortcuts, each plate of rice they serve is prepared with an attention to detail. Sambal is thick and sweet, mild and abundant with onions.
A dish that will make your tummy happy.
The chicken is marinated in a bevy of spices, fried until the skin is crispy. There are subtle flavours of ginger and garlic in the batter, making it so finger-licking good. The layer of spicy batter that covers the chicken is well-seasoned and fried to perfection, and it’s not greasy at all. The flesh is moist and succulent, a wonderful contrast to the golden crust.
You can have it plain if chicken isn't your thing, it's still quite satisfying.
Nasi Lemak Ejam was started by an engineer turned entrepreneur, Khairool Nizam. In 2009, he decided to venture into the nasi lemak business. It took him 2 years of research and development, experimenting with temperature, cooking time and pressures to come up with the version that you can now taste at his stall. His mission was to create an unbeatable nasi lemak. And true enough, he has successfully done it. All the components measured and tested until he was fully satisfied with the results. His nasi lemak is so popular that a Chinese businessman once offered him RM200,000 to buy his recipes.
Look for this stall if you want a nasi lemak dinner in Melaka.
Ejam claims that he is a nasi lemak specialist, it’s not just talk, and the proof is in the pudding or in this case, in the nasi lemak. Now, they even have a branch in Kota Kemuning so if Melaka is too far, you can always make your way there instead. Order up a plate and try it yourself, you won’t be disappointed.
