Burgers. Good. Pizzas. Good. Burgers and pizzas? Gooooood. That’s the grand idea behind Patty & Pie in Aman Suria, one of the newest burger and pizza joints in town. Despite being about 6 months old, they’re serving up some delicious and creative burgers and pizzas. Watch out fans of meat and cheese on bread, this joint is right up your alley.

Nestled in the relatively busy area of Aman Suria, Patty & Pie is owned by the husband-wife duo of Nadal and Sherry.

Easy to spot during the day. At night you have to hunt it down a bit, hehe.

They’re often on the floor themselves making sure customers are happy and comfortable. You don’t see that often right? When the owners themselves are serving and making sure people are happy, that’s almost always a hallmark that they love their craft. The restaurant itself is trendy and modern. Not too hipster, but not too old-school as well. A good mix, and the people that come here are a nice mix of families and young hip folk hanging around.

Behind that brick wall is the wood fire oven.

The burgers come in either chicken, beef or get this, a falafel patty. The meat is freshly ground, and almost everything they cook here is in-house too. We tried several burgers and all were impressive. Their basic beef Cheeseburger is juicy and well cooked to medium rare (you can order yours well done of course… wusses…) with a generous spread of their ‘secret sauce’ and lovely tangy, sour and sweet home-made pickles. Those pickles, made from local cucumbers, really cut down the rich creaminess of the cheese and beef.

Lookit the cheese....

Great too, is the Oishii burger. We tried one with a chicken patty and it comes topped with soft shell crab and tobiko mayo. The flavours complemented one another and the patty itself wasn’t overcooked. LOVE the soft shell crab on top. It always makes everything taste nicer.

A crabby chicken burger!

For you vegetarians out there, you must try the falafel patty! It’s tender on the inside with a crunchy crust, and loaded with savoury flavour. Our falafel burger was the ‘Swiss Mushroom’ style: creamy, nutty Swiss cheese and funky fried pickled mushrooms were absolutely delicious. The burgers come in sets with great crispy French fries that are exactly like the holy grail of fries from 'The McClown'.

Looks meaty, but that's a falafel patty right there.

Now on to the pizzas. Nadal and Sherry actually bought in a 2-ton wood fire oven all the way from Italy. “Thing weighs 2 tons and ruined my floorboards when they brought it in!” said Nadal. Look inside the restaurant and the oven is insulated and hidden behind a neat brick wall. It’s this oven that gives the pizzas here that characteristic char and crunch. Patty & Pie has great pizzas: a light, airy crust is tasty enough on its own, but the toppings are well selected too.

The pizzas come in 2 sizes: 10 inch and 14 inch. Order the 14 inch pizza and you can go half-and-half on the toppings. So of course that’s what we did. The Salmone pizza has a lovely white sauce and slices of smoked salmon on top, and we ordered it side by side with the Smoked Duck topping. Yums! Thick slices of smoked duck are rich in flavour and went really well with caramelized onions and peppery arugula.

Salmon in front, duck at back.

But hey if you’re a fan of more familiar pizza toppings, try the Carne. It’s delicious, loaded with meat in the form of spicy beef chorizo, ground beef, pepperoni and in-house salted brisket, and spiked with jalapenos. Want something simpler? The Margherita is excellent, with a tangy-sweet tomato sauce and creamy mozzarella.

For you more 'traditional' pizza eaters.

The fun doesn’t stop here, though. As soon as we were stuffed with burgers and pizzas, Nadal and Sherry insisted that we have desserts as well.

So they whipped up a decadent dessert platter with crispy waffles, a gooey sweet dark chocolate brownie with Nutella on the side and a scoop of ice cream. But the sweets they’re really proud of is the ‘cookie shot’. It’s a shot glass… made with cookie dough! They line it with chocolate and serve it with milk, ice cream or an affogato style. Really quaint and yummy.

This is a shot you won't get drunk after downing. Sugar rush, maybe.

Prices here are okay. Expect to pay around RM50 - RM60 for a burger and a pizza with drinks. That said, the burgers are great for sharing too. They do split shifts here, and the crowds can get busy. All in all, a great new addition to our local burger AND pizza scene!
