Unleash the carnivore in you at Samba Brazilian Steakhouse. This 'churrascaria' has been making waves since it opened last year and with good reason too. Juicy, perfectly BBQ-ed meats and a great buffet spread? Sounds like the perfect place for us hungry Malaysians...

Delicious, all you can eat BBQ meats. Good buffet spread. Great ambiance.
There is only one reason as to why you would come to Samba Brazilian Steakhouse. MEAT. Lots of meat. All the meat you can eat. This place is definitely for the carnivore in all of us. It'll set off your most primal senses and instincts, cause you to savour every morsel of flame roasted meat like never before. This place, is carnivore heaven.
Okay I exaggerate, but Samba Brazilian Steakhouse should definitely be at the top of every meat lovers list of 'where to makan'. The restaurant actually has outlets in Cambodia and Laos. In KL, it's located in Avenue K at the heart of Kuala Lumpur, Samba Brazilian steakhouse is a 'churrascaria', which sort of translates to 'barbeque'. Their shtick (and it's a good shtick too!) is that they barbeque various meats over coals on long metal skewers.
I can smell it just by looking at this picture.
Then their servers go from table to table carving in situ for customers. The restaurant itself is big and pretty hip, with modern furnishings and decor. You can choose to sit al fresco, where you'll be looking at the Petronas Twin Towers in the... uh, fresh air of central KL.
Here's the shop!
Nice interior, too
So how do get started? Well Samba is a buffet restaurant. When you come in your server will give you these cutesie badges with two sides. One side is green and the other side is red.
Red for no, green for yes
The green side means 'yup, gimme more meat' whilst the red side denotes that 'okay i have enough for now'. Pretty slick, right? They do this system because, like mentioned above, their waitstaff actually goes around the restaurant floor carrying various meats on skewers to carve tableside.
Can I have it all?
This truly is a carnivores heaven. Everything is grilled/barbequed fresh. First up, the beef sirloin. The meat is beautifully cooked to a medium rare so it retains exceptional beefy flavour and optimim juiciness. I couldn't have enough of this.
But at one point I had to stop asking for the sirloin because HELLO SMOKED DUCK. The salty, faintly gamy flavour of the smoked duck was touched with a nice smokiness from the barbeque.
Duck, smoked and BBQ-ed. Gorgeous.
Now, clean your palate with some gorgeous grilled pineapple. The fruit took to fire really well and was a great foil to the rich meats being served.
I'm eating pineapple too, so it's a 'healthy' meal okay.
And you'll need it too: next up was a huge, HUGE rib of beef that they carve tableside as well. The meat was fall off the bone tender and very juicy. If you have the chance, ask for the bone to be served to you: it's crazy fun to gnaw on the crisped up bits of meat stuck to the bone.
Ask for the bone to gnaw on. Unleash your primal instincts.
Depending on what day you come to, you can also find them grilling chicken livers with onions (delicious too!), rump steak and chicken and even big, fat sausages and also: shrimp wrapped in beef bacon is to die for! Watch out for grilled squid and leg of lamb too.
Those beef bacon wrapped shrimp are seriously addictive.
Divert your attention from the grilled meats (trust me, this is the hardest part of coming here) and head on over to the buffet spread. The spread is varied and pretty tasty too. Raw food fans will be pleased to know that there's tuna and salmon sashimi with all the trimmings, various sushi and of course, plump and juicy oysters on the half shell.
Eat all you can folks.
Cold boiled prawns and mussels are fresh and briny and goes well with the bottles of sauces they have for you (HP sauce, Thousand Island, Tabasco, BBQ, etc.). They even had slipper lobsters, already halved and just waiting for you to gobble up the sweet flesh. Load up on salads to cut down the fat and richness of the meats, or conversely, there's pasta and rice dishes if you're really, really hungry.
The only fly in the ointment is I guess the dessert section: it's just a chocolate fondue with fruits and marshmallows, and some average cakes and cookies. I would have loved to see some bespoke desserts or a better ice cream selection for that matter. But honestly, by the end of my meal, I could'nt care less for dessert. If you love meat like I do, then all that space in your stomach should be reserved for meat. Dessert can come later. I'm salivating just thinking about that juicy, perfectly cooked sirloin...
Come back to the table, please?
Samba Churrascaria has two buffets: the cheaper lunch buffet is mostly pizzas. The one you want is the dinner buffet, which is the one with all the awesome grilled meats. Drinks are ala carte (that's where they hit you, and hard!). Do call ahead and make reservations, as it can get quite busy. It's about RM100++ with drinks per head. Pricey, yup, but seriously worth it if you come ready: with an empty stomach.
