First, you see a green neon light and a dark lit place. Then you start wondering is this a pub or a restaurant? As you get closer to the Sushi Groove sign, it will give you the impression that it is such a funky place that you wouldn’t mind trying it out. We walked in with no expectations of how the food would taste like because we were so caught up by the restaurants’ setting: the interior with dark green lights, green plates, green chopsticks, green cups, green sauce dish. Lucky there were no little green people serving us.
The menu gives you a lot of choices with names like Kinky QQ and Flying Geisha. We weren’t too sure on trying those but it rolls off the tongue so cheekily that we can’t help making jokes about it. Later we found out that it’s just a glorified name for tuna rolls or salmon rolls. The younger crowd of course would love this. Since there are so many dishes to choose from and your brain has suddenly switched to “I’m on Planet Green” mode, for first timers take 5 minutes to peruse the menu.
On the cards today are the traditional miso soup, the seaweed salad and Tokyo crispy mushroom omelette for starters. It’s a good deal. All the starters are good. Light but still tasty. The pickled ginger is nice and tasted like “jeruk asam” that you can eat it by itself while waiting for the main dishes. Box sets are served with rice, miso soup and salad. We tried the tempura with beef teriyaki set but unfortunately, we were not too pleased with the outcome. The restaurant did not serve the set with the traditional glutinous rice in most Japanese dishes and the tempura batter was very oily. But we ate on. Our disappointment came to an end when we had fresh salmon sashimi.
"The fusion dragon looks and tastes amazing"
Then we went into the groovy sushi adventure. Here you can get your usual California Roll at RM9.90 to an Unagi Roll which is actually called, “I love Unagi Roll” at RM 16.90. Try the Tsunami Roll, a sushi with unagi, smoked salmon, avacado, crunchy tempure, goma and tobiko. It’s a good fat sushi that comes in slices of six. Totally yummy. The waiter recommended us to get the Fusion Dragon Roll, which consists of marinated salmon, shrimp tempura, and beef with a sweet spicy sauce. It comes in slices of eight. The roll arrives coiled on the plate like a lazy dragon with a crispy prawn head to denote the dragon’s head. If the first sushi is delicious, the Fusion Dragon is incredible! It looks amazing and tastes amazing. The shrimp tempura is caught in the middle of everything, layered by salmon and tuna and slices beef on each roll with the sauce on it. You will experience all the different dynamics of taste: sweet, sour, salty and spicy. It’s just such a good fuse. Right in the midst of this taste sensation is also the bite of chilli padi. Purists might go up in arms but those who like their Japanese with a fusion twist will lap this up.
Anyone who wants to have a new eating experience should come to this restaurant. The prices are reasonable for a Japanese fast food outlet. Bring a bunch of friends or your family because its just not groovy eating here alone.

Had a meal there on the second day after the grand opening.
Just not suit my appetite.
Won't be going there again.
