This chilled out little café in Melawati has perked up the cake scene in this part of town. Often we bemoan that all cafes seem to want to be in Taman Tun or Bangsar or Subang Jaya. Well, people in Ampang/Melawati/ Wangsa Maju eat cake too. We welcome Indie cafes with open arms.
The brainchild of @kitchengarden a lawyer turned baker, this place has been turning out delicious cakes and baking classes for two years now. Cakes here are the tender kind with interesting frostings and layers.
Chocolate cakes here are light a moist, whether it's belgian, raspberry rippled and nutella topped with creamy icing.
One of the specialties here is the rose pistachio cake. Now I am not a fan of fragrant cakes but this cake is just subtly aromatic with a soft crumb. No wonder this is a favourite.
However, what Café Hyacinth really excels at are their quiches. It’s no small thing for me to praise a quiche and the ones here are thick, more pie than tart and it is moist, full of delicious fillings with a creamy egg custard that binds it all together. I recommend the beef bacon quiche. So there's something here to indulge your savoury and sweet tooth.
