Damansara Uptown is well known to be a food hub for foodies. There's something good to eat on almost every corner and Village Park is a rising star. The reason for their fame is their Nasi Lemak, simple and plain nasi lemak that'll make your day.
The exterior of the place is pretty much calm and cooling but once you step in the reality of the famous lunch spot comes to attention. The ambience is boisterous and aromatic- a kaleidoscope of food food food! The thing about Village Park is that the food is laid wide open for you to stare and drool dumbfoundedly at. Just picture a whole fish head sitting in a pool of deliciously sour assam pedas gravy and topped with a bouquet of ingredients. Then next to that you have a whole array of dishes from spicy to sweet, soft to crunchy and all just sitting pretty and enticing you to take a bite.
Undoubtedly the main star attraction is their Nasi Lemak. Like proud parents, articles, newspaper clippings and pictures of this Nasi Lemak are hung and stuck on each wall, casing and even the glass windows. Even if you were having doubts on what to choose, the Nasi Lemak would command your attention. What gets every visitor is that this Nasi Lemak doesn't clump together. They fall on your plate grain by grain while releasing beautiful rich aromatic scents of coconut milk, pandan (pandanus leaves) and some secret ingredient that makes your world all that brighter. But the deliciousness doesn't just end there.
"And then there’s their Milo Dinosaur"
With half an omega egg (note the orangey-tinge of the yolk), long thick slices of juicy cucumber, a generous helpful of ground nuts with perfectly crisp ikan bilis (anchovies) and sambal that is sweet and spicy mixed with that luxurious rice; you will have a spoonful of pure gastronomical delight right there. Right about now some might be worried that the rice may be in fact too lemak (rich) but fret not, they managed to balance that so you wouldn’t feel so sleepy to go back to work. Another note here is that the sambal is actually sweeter than spicy, so yay! For those who have a low tolerance for heat.
Besides having the Nasi Lemak as it is, you can choose from Ayam Rendang, Daging Rendang, Ayam Goreng (crust full of spices and juicy to boot) or if you prefer seafood, you can choose Sotong or Udang (squid or prawns). Ohh! Their Nasi Dagang with Ikan Tonggol (yes, Tonggol fish!) and Acar (a vegetable salad of cucumber, pineapple & onion tossed in vinegar and chilli) is also quite famous, but that is another review.
We did how ever get a taste of their Soto Ayam, Assam Laksa, Chee Cheong Fun and Prawn Mee. The assam laksa here use Malaysian mackerel instead of the usual sardines hence the broth is richer than most. The best thing about this place is that it is not only tasty, but good for Muslims to take care of their Chinese food craving as they are set-up by a Chinese-Muslim couple. So it's really tasty Chinese food Halal style! So what's the big fuss then you ask? Some claim that Prawn Mee looses their 'uumph!' once you veto the oink factor. But here you can pretty much get the same tastiness without 'Babe' making an appearance.
However scrumptious the food here is, drinks don’t shy away from the limelight either. For instance, their Sirap Bandung (Rose syrup with milk, evaporated or normal) is serve here with a tinge of lime to reduce that rich overkill factor. You can order it normal or special which will come as ice blended Sirap Bandung in a huge glass mug.
And then there’s their Milo Dinosaur. Our greedy little ears perked up at the sound of it and sure enough it did NOT disappoint. This comes in the same HUGE glass mug, thoroughly ice blended with a whole whallop of Milo 'tabur' on top. As you can expect a big rounded straw and spoon is needed for drinking this. Though at first one expects the ice blended milo to be bland, here skimping is not in their dictionary as it is full flavoured and lip-smackingly delicious! In the end, we were still licking the straws savouring every morsel of milo left.
By the end of the meal everyone was stroking their tummies with glee. One can't help but wonder what to order on the next trip down to Village Park. Oh yes! They will definitely be seeing a lot more of the Foodsters there.

Jamfactory, in London? There's about 10 Malaysian restaurants there. Dunno about assam laksa though. Some of the good ones (from cafe -> fine dining) are Nahar, Mawar, C & R, Awana and Champor Champor. Try C & R at High Street Kensington (I think). They should have some. You live somewhere near London Bridge? There's some kind of closed jam factory there which they turned into a beautiful set pf apartments.

This place has everything nearly right , from price to taste to location etc and of course the ground breaking muhibbah crowd ! Restauranteers shud do well to consider patrons from the 3 major races so the word halal is key I think

Hey guys,
Great review of the place. Got me really hungry. It's cold here in London and a bowl of heart warming assam laksa is what fancy now. Anybody know a good place for assam laksa in London?
