by Ali on Wed, January 18, 2017

If you are a bit of a kambing fiend, then this unassuming stall by the side of the road serves up cheap and cheerful food. It's a no frills place with good value hence is always packed at lunch time...

No frills affordable kambing

Dubbed to be one of the best places to enjoy kambing bakar, Warung Kambing Bakar Ayam Penyet Sahara (quite a mouthful) has quite the reputation. We have good reason to believe that a certain Kambing Bakar place in Ampang was so inspired by the Kambing here that he opened a Kambing Bakar shop himself.

Kambing bakar here comes chopped up in its own plate drenched in their signature sauce. This special sauce tastes like a sambal kicap cili padi, spicy and slightly briny.

Look at the bits of fat and tender meat!

Each set comes with a plate of white rice on the side. The lamb meat is undeniably juicy and tender, and the sauce although a little thin asserts its taste with a lingering heat.

Also good to order here is the itik penyet, if you fancy a change for the usual chicken. We definitely recommend this if you're not in the mood of red meat. The itik is fried to crispy perfection and is subtly flavoured.

Order the duck we say

The meat still retains a firm texture that is very flavourful. With every ititk penyet comes the signature sambal and they are generous with it.The sambal has a mild heat, complimenting the crispy itik and a plate of steaming white rice perfectly.

Although are several kambing bakar spots here in Meru, Warung Kambing Bakar Ayam Penyet Sahara attracts customers from near and far. We think its because not many places offer kambing bakar at such affordable prices (one set is less than RM10). They also have sup tulang here and bakso if you fancy something to slurp down between mouthfuls of lamb.
